Oregon attorney general: Thirteen dead after shooter opens fire at community college

Thirteen people have been killed and 20 have been injured in a mass shooting at Umpqua Community College in Oregon, the Oregon attorney general told MSNBC.

The campus is on lockdown while students and faculty are being evacuated.

A spokeswoman from the Douglas County sheriff's department said that there is "no more threat" from the shooter. Police originally said that 10 people had been killed.

The suspect has reportedly been identified by investigators, who are examining his posts on social media.

Students and faculty members are being bused to the Douglas County fairgrounds to be picked up, according to Fire Marshal Ray Shoufler. Students are not allowed to leave campus in their own cars.

The ATF has dispatched additional agents from Portland along with a K9 team to the scene of the shooting. The FBI is also en route.

Officers first responded to reports of a shooting at the college at around 10:40 am local time, the Oregonian reported.

The incident is the 142nd school shooting since a man opened fire at Sandy Hook elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut on December 14, 2012, according to the organization Everytown for Gun Safety.

President Barack Obama has been briefed on the shooting, a White House official said.

A Roseburg resident who lives across the street from the campus told the Oregonian that roughly 20 ambulances and 75 cop cars had responded to the shooting.

The college has about 3,300 full-time students and 16,000 part-time students, according to NBC. It is located in Roseburg, about 175 miles south of Portland.
