Brilliant Idiots did an interesting segment on the show about how everyone appropriates culture and how that's actually good because it exposes and opens people's minds to different aspects of life and the world. Something like that anyways. They also talked about the stealing ? too. I forget though

Appropriation is an issue because of the history of white ppl taking black cultural elements and then blocking black ppl out and claiming it as their own...
If not for that, then no appropriation would not be bad...

Furthermore and just in regards to cultural appropriation in general ...it's not merely participating in something that another group of people participate in ...that definition would clearly be ? for a lack of better words ... To appropriate something is to essentially steal a particular thing it's just a nicer word for stealing ..as far as cultural appropriation it's stealing with the intent of either disregarding the origins of that thing ...it's not "well whites made the automobile so when a black person drives a car he's culturally appropriating whites"
