"And we'll own them like they're our children while they're paying off their student loans after they graduate. But at least we'll be in the Pac-12."

I'm from Canada and this isn't actually what happened.

Two separate people came forward claiming the jackpot (the old white guy in the picture and another guy who claimed this guy stole his ticket). It has been caught up in the courtroom with countering lawsuits against one another for the last two years. Even though they awarded this dude the jackpot, the other guy is still suing both him and the lottery corporation.

It is interesting to note that the guy being awarded the cheque in this photo also sued the lottery corporation to try and prevent them from showing his picture and putting his name out to the press but lost.

The whole situation is very strange... we may never know the true story of what actually happened here.

it is for transparency reasons... we had a couple of high profile cases up here in Canada where convenience store owners swindled winning ticket holders out of their prize by claiming that their winning ticket was a loser and then turned around and got a relative to go cash in the same winning ticket for them (convenience store owners who work in 7-11 and places like that aren't allowed to play the lotteries or win them for precisely this reason)

there was a case here a couple of years ago where a guy's wife and brother-in-law killed him (after he won a few million in the lottery) and buried his body in the backyard under the patio (they both eventually got caught and charged with murder)
