By Miguel Rivera
WBC middleweight champion Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez (46-1-1, 32KOs) believes he gave very fair terms to Amir Khan (31-3, 19KOs) for their upcoming showdown on May 7th at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
The fight takes place at a catch-weight of 155-pounds, which has caused a lot of controversy among insiders who believe the fight is not being fought on an even playing field.
Khan, who moved up to welterweight not long ago, agreed to move up by eight pounds. There are conflicting stories as to which side demanded the catch-weight of 155.
Canelo claims that he was considering the idea of having it staged at the junior middleweight limit of 154-pounds, but Khan wanted a catch-weight of 155 in order to have the WBC middleweight title at stake.
"I only demanded what was fair and he accepted the conditions," Canelo told ESPN Deportes. "I climb into the ring at whatever weight that's going to give me the win, whether it's 180 or 190 pounds - if I think it's the appropriate [weight] for me on the day of the fight."
José 'Chepo' Reynoso, coach of Canelo, says their promoter, Golden Boy Promotions' Oscar De La Hoya, was the lead figure in the negotiations. He says Canelo is not a natural 160-pounder and the fight was made as low as possible to be within the middleweight limit.
"We have a team behind us, including Oscar de la Hoya, who is in charge of all those details and negotiates the agreements," Chepo said. "We expect a complicated fight with a fast opponent. Canelo is not a natural Middleweight. The fight is at 155 pounds, because the weight is within the division limit which is 160-pounds."

The way its going I see Canelo fighting the ghost of Margarito in September.

? be blaming Floyd for everything, every fight, every full contact sport got Floyd name in they mouth, but answer me this, when did Floyd pull some ? ? like this, make up some injury, OR claim injury and try his harder to stall or back up of a fight that he signed on to fight??? when??? NEVER!
If anything, Floyd hardly talks about his injuries or does so when pushed by the media and that is AFTER A FIGHT..smh, some yall need to stop with the ? already -

It'll help him probably but not enough to win it will be target practice if he fights Cotto. I'll watch but its not something that is getting me hyped at all.
But Cotto is at the end and I'm sure he ain't really trying to challenge himself against any of the good younger fighters. -
Him and Wolfe got a strange And dysfunctional relationship ...with that being said war cotto
