Kendrick Lamar’s most diehard fans probably know about his admiration for Lil Wayne. The world at large might not know though, until now. The Compton rapper did an interview with The Coveteur and praised Lil Wayne effusively, going as far as calling him the greatest.
“Yeah, man, we was heavy,” Kendrick Lamar said when discussing the influence of Lil Wayne. “That’s a real story like, we was just huge, still to this day, huge Lil Wayne fans. Lil Wayne is the greatest. Not only because of his music but also because of the culture he put behind it. It was a big part of what he was talking about, so we always hold Lil Wayne in high regards. Juvenile as well. And yeah, it’s the impact of them man. To be a part of it the same way he was a part of it years later is just a great feeling.”
Considering the strong reactions that Lil Wayne can receive from hip-hop fans, particularly for his work in the post-Carter 3 era, this is quite the endorsement to get. Kendrick Lamar speaks to just how influential Lil Wayne has been in all different aspects of the game, and as one of the top contenders for the spot of hip-hop’s current crown, Kendrick’s word holds a lot of weight with the people.
Check out the entire interview to read Kendrick Lamar’s thoughts on fashion including his major collaboration with Reebok.

Yet another reason rap fans shouldn't listen to the rappers they like say who they like. Keep it about music. -
Lil Wayne fathered a large percentage of these newer rappers. Schematically you can hear his influence in a lot of em.
-

If Wayne had overdosed and died ? would've labeled him the greatest of this generation. It's crazy how people gratify you when you die.

Wayne is prolific indeed but the greatest? Gtfoh
50 millions songs about eating box and cartoonish ass similes don't make you no great in my book..Eye can't think of one wayne song that has a timeless impact like "juicy", "dear mama","if Eye ruled the world"
Wayne lost the thunder after Carter 3..The drugs and ? melted that ninjas brain..He's becoming washed..Kendrick just showin him love..that's cool but he need to chill with the hyperbole -
Aight, I'm just going to walk away from this one. What's up with this hyperbole ? ?
-
Bcotton gonna get you
-
Meh, that's his experience. Most kids around his age during that era actually got to experience that culture from that perspective... going to the bootleg man to cop D1/D2, watching him perform Gossip on the BET Awards, hearing A Milli for the first time, etc. Like it or not, these are the moments that make Wayne who he is to ppl that call him great. It's one thing to rate a rapper by his skills and catalogue in hindsight, it's another thing to be at an age where you can fully take in a culture being ran in such a way that Wayne did it. Who knows, some 14 yr old kid that's a fan of Dot, Drake, Cole, Future or whoever might get his shot 10 yrs from now and say one of them is the greatest.
Oh, he's 28 you say? Yeah, bul is on that Sherman Helmsley. -
Wayne tanked entirely too hard IMO.
Plus his ghostwriters
I'm convinced Gillie, Quinten Miller & Euro penned his dopest ? -
