True story.
I had tickets to go to the Apollo Theatre back in the summer of 1997. I was living in Harlem at the time. So I figured I'd steam a blunt right before I went in. So I'm waiting in line smoking a blunt and the security guards blocked the line and said everybody that was still waiting in line had missed the first show and we'd have to wait in line for about an hour to catch the next show.
So we waited for an hour. And the people from the first show came out. They said Wu Tang Clan performed and they tore the place to shreds. They said Method Man was, "climbing on the walls".
So we get in for the second show and I'm expecting for Wu Tang to perform (this was the same summer Wu Tang Forever was out). It turns out the musical guest was Kirk Franklin and ? 's Property. It was kind of a disappointment at first but when they performed Stomp the Holy Ghost was in the house! If you've ever been to a Black church you know what I'm talking about. All the girls in the audience were standing up dancing and clapping their hands and the energy was at 100%.
I guess for every cloud there's a silver lining. I would have rather seen Wu Tang but Kirk Franklin put on a helluva a show.
Moral of the story, if I didn't smoke that blunt I would have seen Wu Tang perform at the Apollo Theatre.
Also this is when Steve Harvey was the host of Showtime at the Apollo. I saw him shut a heckler down. Somebody was heckling his stand up act and Steve hit the heckler with about 10-15 your mama jokes. The one I remember was, "Your mama is so nasty she got fired from a sperm bank for drinking on the job!". It was so bad the heckler had to get up and leave. -

Yea i remember growing up in a SDA, church.... And all the old head was hating on kirk.
I never got the hate cause , kids was ? with him and he was talking about jesus. Youd think kirk would be the perfect alternative, and they'd be happy. -
