Film Institute has canceled its Friday screening of “Birth of a Nation,” which was to be followed by a Q&A with filmmaker and star Nate Parker, whose 1999 ? case has put the filmmaker and distributor Fox Searchlight on the defensive this past week.

AFI dean Jan Schuette made the announcement to students late Tuesday. The AFI screening would have been Parker’s first public event since the story about the ? case became widely known earlier this month.

“I have been the recipient of many different passionate points of view about the screening, and I believe it is essential that we discuss these issues together — messenger and message, gender, race and more — before we see the film,” Schuette said. “Next week, we will be scheduling a special moderated discussion so we may explore these issues together as artists and audience.”

Fox will hold a different AFI screening of “Birth” later this year. The studio has vowed to continue its theatrical release and publicity tour for the Nat Turner biopic, which opens Oct. 7, despite the recent headlines involving Parker.

In 1999, Parker and his friend, Jean Celestin, who is credited as a writer on “Birth of a Nation,” were charged with ? an 18-year old, who claimed she was unconscious after drinking heavily. Both men said the sex was consensual. Parker was acquitted of the ? charges in 2001, but Celestin was found guilty of sexual assault. He appealed the verdict and was granted a new trial in 2005, but the case never made it back to court after the woman declined to testify again.

Idk what to think.Maybe she got ? and got freaky or maybe he did let his friend smash.

If she was down, why would he have to hide his friend's name?He only told her the roomate ? her because she says she was preggo.

Let's not act like Penn state doesn't hide athletic program rapes now.

Yes this only came out because he is putting this movie out,but it doesn't mean he didn't do it.

I just don't know, but if she knew she wanted to get a train ran on her,why did her life go into so such turmoil? She killed herself.

I want to believe Nate and his dude didnt do this, but it's very possible.

The rationale of why he was aqcuited is dumb."He had sex with her before"
Um, you do know he went to trial and was ACQUITTED of all charges? You say "it doesn't mean he didn't do it" as if he didn't already go to trial and win. He didn't do it

Being found innocent or Acquited doesn't mean you didn't do it,it means they didn't have proof or there's a technicality.

4 ? got out jail from a 20 yr sentence for a murder they didn't commit.

Also Penn State gotva bad history with hiding ? .

Idk what Parker did or didn't do,but why his man get found guilty?

His other man may be telling the truth about Nate waving dude in.
Bruh in the court of law he's INNOCENT. No charges. This ? is racism at it's finest. ? gets acquitted of charges 17 years ago, and ppl still bringing it up. How many cops acquitted for killing ? have to answer questions 17 years later? I'll wait

You're right. And some of the same people who would say the same thing you just said are the main ones piling on in this situation.. Meanwhile, some of the same people are saying they can drag Parker but also support the movie.. Well if these movie folks start pulling the film and make it less and less available then it can easily flop. Oh well.

Folks are getting mad at Harry Belafonte and others for questioning the timing of this stuff coming out but it is up for questioning. It's also fair to ask what would happen if these guys wrote a regular ass slave movie. What would happen if they wrote 12 years a slave. Would this have come out? I wonder.

When a white man does something to a black female I don't see black feminists or white women going crazy (not saying it doesn't happen) like they do when a black man does something to a white woman or a black woman.

Remember those movies "Powder" and Jeepers Creepers?

The Director of those was convicted of ? child actors he worked with, videotaping it, and buying child porn.

    Served 15 months.

5 years later he was back working with child actors on a big budget Hollywood film produced by Disney..........and the newsmedia of the time treated this like it was a interesting trivia fact.

So miss me with this ? .....

This is why I don't ? with liberals. They will turn on you just like that.

    1) Bill Cosby is called out for past claims, but Bill Clinton's ? "was in the past, so why bring it up."

    2) Nate Parker was acquitted and going through this, while Woody Allen is celebrated despite being a ? who married his daughter.

You gonna compare Cosby drugging and ? scores of women with Clinton's consentual affairs? Ok dude. Also, plenty of folks think Woody Allen is a scumbag weirdo.

Yeah, but no one's threatened to ? with his livelihood, or protest his work, or trying to get him thrown in jail for his weirdo ? .

I realized that ticket sale scam ? a few years ago. I told the people I want 4 tickets for The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo and this ? printed out tickets for Mission Impossible. How the ? can you mix up those movie titles.

    So now....

All the "common" folks that would have went to see this movie are going to boycott it because of the controversy that conveniently was stirred up so close to the movie being released. And now it will seem like only black extremists, misogynist, and "racist" black folks are going to see it. So when the first incident of "racially motovated violence" happens after the movie is released, what do yall think the media will say?

Will this movie be looked at as a just a cinematic depiction of history, or a tool to incite racial violence?

The Nate Parker Attempted Set Up Phone Transcript

    http://blacktimetravel.com/read-the-nate-parker-transcript-carefully-and-tell-us-does-he-sound-like-a-guilty-? /

In a epic failure of an attempt to ? up a brother's life due to her hoin' over perkin' black out ways, the ? tried to catch Nate out there by (most than likely illegally taping,) a phone conversion between them. All that is revealed is that over girl was a freak, she like to over perk in order to release her inhibitions so that she indulge in some freak nasty ménage action. I'm taking time out of my life to type this out so that y'all be armed with the facts when hatin' muthafuckas try to scream some ? when this very important film drops. These snow bunnies are a mutafucka though, they get caught out there them try to scream ? , but muthafuckas are wrong for questioning a ? when she comes with some mendacious ? allegations ? .

    Nate Parker:
    "Hello?"

    Supposedly ? Lying Dead ? : "Nate?"

    Nate Parker: "Yeah, what's up?"

SRLDB: "This is the Supposedly ? Lying Dead ? ."

    NP: "Oh, hey, howya doing?"

SRLDB: "I'm really sorry I yelled at you last time. We just need to talk."

NP: "Yeah that's all right. U, Let me change phones, all right?"

    SRLDB: "OK."

    NP: "hello?"

    SRLDB: "Yeah."

    Yeah.

SRLDB: I am like two months late for my period.

    NP: Hmmm.

SRLDB: And I'm having an appointment at Ritenour tomorrow and I'm really scared and I don't know what to do and you don't think it's yours but what if it's the other guys that was in the room. I don't know, uhh, I mean. I'm, goign to counseling cause I don't know what to do about this. As of now I'm working two jobs, you know I'm taking thirteen credits, I don't know what to do.

NP: Ahh, all, you going to (unintelligible) tomorrow to see if you're pregnant?

SRLDB:I know I, I mean I'm have all the symptoms and I'm late for two months. I, I've never been late before.

NP: How many people have you slept with since that night?

    SRLDB: Huh, nobody Nate.

NP: I was just wondering, just wondering.

    SRLDB: "yeah"

NP Umm,, you like I said before this is serious, you know what I mean. Umm, who have you talked to about it? When you say counseling do you mean..."

    SRLDB: (interjecting) Right.

    NP: through the school?

SRLDB: No through the school. I'm seeing an off campus counselor cause I don't, I don't know what to do. I'm really scared, I mean I really don't know what to do and I, you know, I don't know whose it is I don't know what to do.

Some Ole Ménage Freak Nasty Phone Transcript ? Pt. II

NP: What do you want to do?

SRLDB: I don't know. I mean, it's not even like we know whose baby it is in the first place.

NP: "Don't cry. I mean ahh, I'm willing to help you as much as I can. I mean, with anything. Because, well, I mean, ? like that you know what I mean, getting pregnant off of some stupid ? doesn't de, doesn't, no one deserves that, you know? And it's unfair to everyone, you know what I mean? Especially the child if you have it or whatever, you know?

SRLDB: Can you tell me honsetly how many people I slept with that night, so I know what I'm looking at here?

NP: Well, it was only you know what I mean, the only person people who was there was me and the person that I was with that night when we met, my roommate.

SRLDB: Yeah, but didn't like, umm, three come home with us?

NP: No, yeah (sounds like Ken/Tim0 the one that gave us the ride, no he didn't.

    SRLDB: OK

NP: He didn't at all, he uhh, didn't even he wasn't even in, like he had left. He more or like dropped us off, you know.

    SRLDB: "yeah"

NP: So, and umm, I really appreciate you calling you now what I mean talking like us having a civil conversation. I just wanted to let you know that. Umm, I'm trying to think if, well whaddaya, what are you
What do you want to do? Do you know yet?

SRLDB: I have no clue. I'm just still confused about that night, Nate. And that's, I mean, I don't I mean I don't want to have a kid and then like tell you know, look I slept with a whole bunch of people when I'm ? , you known, and that's how you came to be. I can't, I don't know about doing that, but I don't believe in abortion either, I don't I don't know what to do. I mean I was really ? , and

NP: I understand, I'm sorry, Uh, I mean, and I'm like, like I told you before, you know what I mean, you know the way that everything happened, now looking back on it we can both say that it was just unnecessary, none of it should have happened anyway, you know what I mean? And, I mean I'm here, I mean to help you anyway I can, you know, I mean I know that's it's a ? up situation, like you said you're hurting, and stuff. You're going through it, umm, I want to help you, you know what I mean, anything that you I can do, tell me, I don't, I, don't know what to say because I've never been in a situation like this before, you know, like, you're saying you don't want to bring, you know, a kid in the world and all that. I know for a fact that it's not mine, but let's just say for sake of saying, there ain't, I wouldn't know what, I don't know what to do.

SRLDB: How do, how do you know it's not yours, Nate?

NP: Because I, I was protected, that's why.

SRLDB: But the morning after when I was really groggy
, when you like I was laying on my stomach, and you had sex with me, and you cummed on my back.

NP: "That's true. Ohh, I, I didn't even think about that.

SRLDB: I mean, I don't understand why you guys did this to me in the first place
Why you making it like that? That's my only thing. The morning after, ok, this what I'm saying. The morning after, you know what I mean, you said, I'll have sex with you. It wasn't even like that, you know what I mean? If there was anything wrong you would have said it, but you said nothing was wrong, you know? That's why I'm just like, wh, whoah, why is she saying something was wrong...

SRLDB: In the morning, Nate, I hardly remember anything and

    NP: Ok (unintelligible)

SRLDB: I mean, I didn't honestly, Nate, I didn't want to have sex with you that night[/b]. I mean everybody that I had sex with before you have always been in a relationship.

    NP: Ok

SRLDB:And I just don't go, and I mean did you go out and bring another person in the room.

    NP: No

SRLDB: or did the other person just walk in.

    NP: No, actually.

SRLDB:Then how did he come to be there?

NP: Because you hung out with me and that person ever since we left the Silver Screen.

SRLDB: Yeah, but how did, how did that happen to me, having sex with him?

NP: Because, we were all hanging out together and then me and you started doing stuff and me then me and you eventually started having sex or whatever and he was still there, and you know what I mean, it start happening and you didn't stop it, you know what I mean?

SRLDB: But, Nate, I was so out of it. I was, my whole body was numb, I couldn't do anything about it.

NP: This is what I'm saying, this is what I'm saying. Ok, this is my whole, my thing, I've been thinking about this and everything. There is no way, and I say to myself, I know, for a fact there's no way that you did anything or said anything to assure that you didn't want to do what you were doing. You were all for it. you know what I mean? Like, when you said something, you had a ? in your mouth and the ? , and somebody on top you. The whole thing about that, you were holding, it'd it'd be different if you were just laying there, but you weren't. You were active, you know what I mean.

    SRLDB: I can't see that. I don't remember. I just don't remember.

NP: This is what I'm saying. Ok, Ok, can you give me this much. Would you admit that, or would you say that things could have happened that you may have been involved with but you just don't remember?

    SRLDB: I, I honestly don't know cause I know if I wasn't ? .

    NP: Ok

    SRLDB:...I wouldn't have done that.

NP: Ok. Well, do I know that? You say your were all this ? , I really didn't know that you were all that ? . I'm not, that's what I'm saying, I can't control your drinking, and I, I'm, don;t know exactly how ? you were. I don't know, I was drinking, your were drinking, everyone was drinking. And I didn't know that you were all that ? , why, because you were like, yeah let's go to your house that's cool. Let's go. (unintelligible,) you know we went, and you were like, yeah you were having a good time, we were talking, everything. I mean this is what I'm saying, if you were, I can understand that you said, Nate, you know what I mean, I was ? and I'm sure I did things, but I don't remember, you know what I'm saying? I'm not going to say it was against my will, I'm not going to say that, but all I'm saying is I really don't remember.

    SRLDB: (unintelligible)

NP: That's different, that's different. But for you to say that you were just passing out and this and that is totally, that's just wrong. I'm saying that you were completely conscious. You may not remember, you may say that you don't remember now, and I can understand you saying that, maybe, but you were completely conscious. You know what I mean? You were awake, you know what I mean? When you were giving head or

This is were the ? cuts off at. Good for that dead ass ? . Can somebody find the rest of this ? . This hella dead ? freak nasty ? was suckin' ? like a muthafucka.
