According to the criteria for these threads the correct answer is Macklemoore

Indie rapper went platinum multiple times over all across the world.

    Completely controlled radio

But we can act like that didnt happen and say Kendrick. Im okay with that.

I've never heard a Macklemore song (except for that race one he did that) but he should get the vote if the above is all true

Macklemore is not on these polls for the same reason the Beastie Boys or Will Smith weren't on the polls in 98, or Black Eyed Peas weren't on the polls in 03-04, or D4L/Soulja Boy/DJ Unk weren't on the polls in 06-07, or Flo Rida in 08-12, or Pitbull etc. So cut the Macklemore talk out it ain't happening bruh.

He's not an hip hop artist though. Just because he's "rapping" and I use the word "rapping" loosely doesn't mean he's making hip hop music. So he doesn't qualify.

How is he not hip hop?

Ive heard interviews with him and he came up on dope west coast underground music, breakdanced, & was an active graffiti artist.

He actually participated in 3 of the 4 elements of hip hop

Did u ever even listen to his album?

The Heist is more hiphop than The Love Below

Man Tity ran 2012... this ? was featured everywhere on top of dropping a classic. Didn't Kendrick's album come out at the end of the year? I would say he had more impact going into 2013.

Yea I'm not gonna lie ? low key buggin saying Kdot was MVP of 2012 this is a clear example of revisionist history kdot did not have that buzz behind him that heavily till 2013.... ? just voted by who dropped they favorite album that year now becuz from years beginning till years end ? might not wanna say it becuz he not sum lyrical rapper or didn't drop a classic but 2 chainz ran that year

K.Dot got just as much play in 2012 as ? , and Kendrick's album sold more...

I actually listened to it a few years ago because someone told me the album was good. Yes he's rapping but his music comes off as hip hop for people who don't like hip hop.

Think y'all confusing Kendrick w/ Macklemore. Don't worry the Grammys did the same thing.

Kendrick started buzzing when the Recipe dropped, then Swimming Pools dropped and that song was everywhere.

And how does a guy who, according to y'all, sell 250,000 first week and is damn near Gold by the end of the year, not have any buzz?

And all them songs 2chainz had and K dot still outsold him in the first week and overall.

And I'm LMAO @ I can't vote for a album that came late in the year.

If you ever voted for a Jay album you was voting for an album that came out late in the year. FOH

That whole Kendrick ain't have no buzz ? applies to Macklemore.

He really didn't start buzzing til 2013 when Thrift Shop was getting serious radio play. All the singles you remember in 2013, Thrift Shop, Can't Hold Us, Same Love were released in mid 2012 or 2011 like Can't Hold Us.

The Heist was damn near a flop when it was released. All of it's success came in 2013 and beyond.

If sales was the criteria for MVP then Nas shouldn't have won 2002 poll.

Slim who you telling. I think Nas is Goat and Scarface is the only one that comes close but he was never an "MVP" of any year especially 2002. I voted for Em w/ Nelly in 2nd.
