Nas is the Natural progression of the best MC's of the 80s. Nobody with a debut album in the 90s can say they helped father his style.

He didn't, but he did drop the album that is considered to be the epitome of Mafioso Rap even though there really isn't much mafioso in it at all. And Nas' Esco persona came directly from OB4CL. Everyone on that album had a mafioso moniker. Nas came up with Esco(bar) especially for that album and ran with it afterwards. Saying Nas bit Rae is a bit of a strech, but Nas certainly did dabble in the mafioso rap for a while and you have to believe that he was influenced by Rae to some degree in that. He didn't really come out doing that and he hasn't done it all that much sense.

i can see that with the message a lil bit but he still does it differently. This is just the portion of the verse that may match with borrowing from looking at the entire track or verse as a whole I couldn't name a track where NaS sounds like Rae/Ghost anyway.

    Exhibit A:

The highlights of livin', Vegas-style roll dice in linen

Antera spinnin' on Millenniums

Twenty G bets, I'm winning 'em; threats I'm sending 'em

Lex with TV sets the minimum

Ill sex adrenaline, party with villains

A case of Demi-Sec to chase the Henny

Wet any clique, with the semi TEC – who want it?
Diamonds I flaunt it, chickenheads flock, I lace 'em

Fried broiled with basil, taste 'em, ? the legs
Way out of formation, it's horizontal how I have 'em

? ' me in the Benz wagon

Can it be Vanity from Last Dragon?

    Exhibit B Undying Love

Pacino life, G a roll, casino dice

At the Mirage, Vegas strip, neon lights

Gamblers, puffin cigars, couples and stars
Flashin cameras, dealers, shufflin cards

Spent the weekend, already miss New York and it's odd

Cause I'm the first to say it got too many hustlers who rob
I never hang out, when we do we bust the .45

Cause shells comin back at us while we jump in the ride

The big difference is NaS is a natural storyteller so even use of conscious stream flows coming from him flows and sounds different. At least to me. His use of language also separates him from these guys. They use a lot slanguage in their rhymes as well to tell possibly the same story but it's different or the perspective is different. Interesting stuff to examine.

G Rap gets respect from Rae. Rae said G Rap influenced him, but you can't just act like Rae stole from him. When you listen to their catalogs, their music isn't really that much alike outside of some mafia references here and there. G Rap has made a lot of music with the Wu though. He was a character in Ghostface's 36 Seasons most recently.

Kool G Rap started the whole mafioso rap thing, but Rae and Wu took it to the next level, Nas used it after Illmatic for a period of time, so yeah you could say he took inspiration from Rae...

ya'll dont get it , they both were influenced from Kool G rap and Rakim and when we talkin about the styles we talkin rhyme patterns yes I do see the Raekwon little bit of influence in makin shorter sentences, rapid fire style bars ,even nas himself admitted it and @emaculate caught it in his post

so its not just about "mafioso style" but rap patterns "take it in blood" sounds like some raekwon ?

Yo; I never brag, how real I keep it, cause it's the best secret
I rock a vest, prestigious, Cuban link flooded Jesus

Climaxin, my ? they be laughin
They high from sniffin coke off a twenty-cent Andrew Jackson
City lights spark a New York night
Rossi and Martini sippin, Sergio Tachinni flippin mad pies
low price, I blow dice and throw em
Forty-five by my ? , manifest the "Do or Die" slogan
My ? roll in ten M3's
Twenty Gods poppin wheelies on Kawasaki's
Hip-Hop's got me on some ol', sprayin shots like a drumroll
Blankin out and never miscount the shells my gun hold
    I don't stunt, I regulate
Henny and Sprite, I seperate, watchin crab ? marinate
I'm all about tecs and good jooks and sex
Israelite books, holdin government names from Ness
MC's are crawlin out, every hole in the slum
You be aight like blood money in a ? 's ?

and all the young dumb ? let me tell you that i'm not dissin Nas he is my favorite all tike but I did notice the influence on IWW and its not biting but just being influenced since we know for sure he listened to Cuban Linx
