Sometimes artist want to try something different. Albums that are totally different from the artist catalog Or what you weren't expecting before the album came Such as what ghostface did with wizard of poetry, Andre with the love below, Kanye 808s, commons electric circus, rza bobby digital album, yelawolf love story or even mos defs December 99th. Some fans only want their artist to give them what you been giving them others dont mind. Either or what artist do you think went a unexpected route and did good at it?

Yeah, that's a top one too -
Distant Relatives is cold. Just played it in early May. The first Best of Both Worlds was cool too (GOAT intro too)

I was really feeling The Rise and Liberation of Niggy Tardust and thought it was a solid effort. It was a collaborative project between Saul Williams And Trent Reznor. i thought their styles meshed together well

CoFlo's Funcrusher/Funcrusher Plus wasn't experimental though. Neither was De La's first album for that matter -
Most of Kool Keith's catalog.
Analog Brothers' "? to Eat"
Deltron 3030
Eleven Phases - Detroit Compilation (basically an album that asks "what would happen if you asked Detroit Techno artists to make hip hop tracks")

St Elsewhere
The Odd Couple
