Daily News - A jealousy-crazed man pummeled two strangers on an Inwood sidewalk, leaving one of them brain dead, after they catcalled and whistled at his girlfriend, police said Friday.

The shocking, over-the-top attack was caught on surveillance video, which was released by cops.

Two men, Lucia Bravo, 69, and Juan Caldron, 39, were sitting on the sidewalk drinking and talking politics outside the Mundo Department store on Sherman Ave. near Dyckman St. before the assault at 4:10 a.m. Thursday, police said.

Caldron later told cops that a couple walked by, and he and Bravo catcalled the woman, enraging her boyfriend, authorities said.

The furious man spun around and began pounding on his seated victims, according to the video footage.

He took turns slamming his fists into the two men, using their heads like punching bags as he alternated shots, authorities said.

The helpless victims tried to fend off the rage-filled paramour but he was unstoppable, police said. He even shoved the woman he was with when she tried to intervene.

When the barrage of abuse finally ended at the woman’s urging, the couple ran off east on 207th St., sources said.

After the beatdown, Calderon and Bravo staggered south on Vermillion Ave. to 204th St. where Bravo collapsed. Calderon called 911.

EMS rushed the victims to St. Barnabas Hospital where Bravo has been declared brain dead, sources said. He suffered numerous bruises to his head and had bleeding on the brain.

Calderon suffered only bruising and a cut lip.

Cops are hoping someone recognizes the attacker from the video.
