Sanders Says It’s Not ‘Appropriate To Lie’ But Defends Bogus Trump Claims

The White House press secretary Wednesday strongly condemned lying from the briefing room podium “or any other place,” but defended recent claims by President Donald Trump that have been thoroughly debunked.

“I don’t think it’s appropriate to lie from the podium or any other place,” Sarah Huckabee Sanders said during her daily briefing. “Absolutely not.”

Asked about Trump’s claim that Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto called him to praise his border policy, a claim Peña Nieto disputed on Monday, Sanders said Trump was in fact referencing “a conversation that they had had at the G20 summit.”

Trump on Monday claimed specifically that Peña Nieto “called” to give him “the ultimate compliment” on his border policy.

Peña Nieto’s office on Monday said he had “not recently communicated with President Donald Trump by phone.”

Sanders also defended Trump’s claim that the Boy Scouts called him to praise a speech he made at the organization’s national jamboree.

“In terms of the Boy Scouts, multiple members of the Boy Scout leadership following his speech there that day congratulated him, praised him, and offered quite — I’m looking for the word — quite powerful compliments,” she said.

“I got a call from the head of the Boy Scouts saying it was the greatest speech that was ever made to them, and they were very thankful,” Trump claimed in an interview with the Wall Street Journal (Politico published the transcript).

The Boy Scouts told Time on Tuesday that they were not aware of any call from the organization’s leadership to the White House.

“But the President specifically said that he received a phone call from the President of Mexico and the leader of the Boy Scouts,” a reporter said to Sanders.

“They were direct conversations, not phone calls,” she replied.

“So he lied. He didn’t receive that’s a phone call,” the reporter pressed.

“That’s a pretty bold accusation. The conversations took place. They just simply didn’t take place over a phone call. He had them in person,” Sanders said. “I wouldn’t say it was a lie.”

Trump’s Approval Rating Craters, Down to Only 33% in Latest Poll

With his White House gripped by chaos and seemingly every day bringing another bombshell story rocking his administration, it appears voters are roundly rejecting President Donald Trump’s job performance.

According to a new Quinnipiac poll, only 33% of voters approve of the job Trump is doing, compared to 61% who disapprove. Trump’s approval rating has dipped seven points from Quinnipiac’s June 29th survey.

For the most part, the president has retained the support of Republican voters, with 76% stating they approve of his performance. However, a significant portion — 17% — are now giving a thumbs down to Trump. Only 2%(!) of Democrats approve of the way the president is handling his job. Independents are not overly thrilled with Trump, either, with only 34% saying he’s doing a good job.

For the Trump administration, there is nothing but bad news in these poll numbers. Outside of the low approval numbers, the survey also shows that a solid majority of voters — 58% — believe the president has tried to derail or obstruct the investigation into Russian election interference, and 63% of respondents feel Russia attempted to influence the election.

Another interesting takeaway from this poll is the how much the public really wants the president to stop tweeting. Nearly seven in ten voters want him to put his smartphone down while only 27% state that he should keep using Twitter
. This goes against what Trump recently tweeted about his use of the social media platform:

While the Q poll represents the lowest approval rating for Trump among recent surveys released, it isn’t exactly a crazy outlier. Per HuffPost Pollster, Trump’s average job approval rating is 37.5%, with disapproval sitting at 58.4%.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is resisting the pleas of State Department officials to spend nearly $80 million allocated by Congress for fighting terrorist propaganda and Russian disinformation.
It is highly unusual for a Cabinet secretary to turn down money for his department. But more than five months into his tenure, Tillerson has not issued a simple request for the money earmarked for the State Department’s Global Engagement Center, $60 million of which is now parked at the Pentagon. Another $19.8 million sits untouched at the State Department as Tillerson’s aides reject calls from career diplomats and members of Congress to put the money to work against America’s adversaries. The $60 million will expire on Sept. 30 if not transferred to State by then, current and former State Department officials told POLITICO

Some of the developed world has a point system for immigration. I actually think Trump may be able to get something done on this.

NBC News: Trump Floated Idea Of Firing Top US Commander In Afghanistan

President Donald Trump suggested firing the commander of U.S. forces in Afghanistan during a meeting last month with Secretary of Defense James Mattis and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph Dunford, NBC News reported late Wednesday.

During a meeting on July 19, Trump repeatedly suggested that Mattis and Dunford replace top U.S. commander in Afghanistan Gen. John Nicholson, NBC News reported, citing unnamed senior administration officials.

Mattis pushed back, defending Nicholson, an unnamed official told NBC News.

Vice President Mike Pence, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, Chief White House strategist Steve Bannon, Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser Jared Kushner, national security adviser H.R. McMaster and then chief-of-staff Reince Priebus also attended the meeting, per the report.

Trump also complained about the conflict’s lack of progress and NATO allies, and criticized advisers in the room including Mattis, according to NBC News.

“We aren’t winning,” Trump complained, as quoted in the report. “We are losing.”

According to NBC News, Trump has not met Nicholson.

The White House declined to comment to NBC News. National Security Council spokesman Michael Anton told NBC News that “no decision has been made” about Trump’s strategy in the region.

This got me heated...some legit fascist fuckery rite here:

British punk singer is deported from America for impersonating Donald Trump

"I had only been there 30 seconds when the border control guard swung his screen round and said, 'Is this you?'."

He told the website Team Rock: "There in full view was a video from last year's German tour with me dressed as Donald Trump smoking a fake joint.

"From there it all went downhill. Six hours later I was forcibly escorted to my seat on the plane."

After being questioned by customs and border staff in San Francisco, Peter says he had his phone and passport confiscated, had a DNA swab taken, was photographed and had to make an official statement before being escorted to a plane bound for London.

He was refused alcohol on the 11-hour United Airlines flight back to the UK and only had his mobile and passport returned when he'd landed.

"I expect to still be the singer of Peter & The Test Tube Babies by the end of the year," he said.

"Will Trump still be president by the end of the summer? A US tour or festival will never, ever happen again."

Just another reason I will NEVER travel abroad under this ? regime. These border/custom ? can miss me with that "hand over your phone/social media passwords" ? . Molon Labe @janklow

How long before pigs start to copy these tactics I wonder

"One of the officers calls out to me and says, ‘Hey, give me your phone,’" recalled Shibly. "And I said, ‘No, because I already went through this.'"

The officer asked a second time.

Within seconds, he was surrounded: one man held his legs, another squeezed his throat from behind. A third reached into his pocket, pulling out his phone. McCormick watched her boyfriend’s face turn red as the officer’s chokehold tightened.

NSC’s Senior Intelligence Director Ezra Cohen-Watnick Fired

Ezra Cohen-Watnick, the senior intelligence director for the White House’s National Security Council, was fired Wednesday.

A White House official confirmed that Cohen-Watnick “left the National Security Council” at National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster’s behest.

“He has determined that, at this time, a different set of experiences is best-suited to carrying that work forward,” the official said in a statement. “General McMaster is confident that Ezra will make many further significant contributions to national security in another position in the administration.”

Cohen-Watnick, dubbed “the man McMaster couldn’t fire,” was a protégé of ousted National Security Adviser Michael Flynn and ally of White House chief strategist Steve Bannon.

McMaster reportedly tried to fire him in March after replacing Flynn, but Bannon and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law and senior adviser, intervened in Cohen-Watnick’s favor.

Cohen-Watnick was the latest casualty in a string of firings at the NSC. McMaster (pictured above) replaced Fox News commentator K.T. McFarland as his deputy in May, reportedly without seeking White House approval first. He also reportedly fired Rich Higgins, a staffer who worked in the council’s strategic planning office on July 21, after Higgins authored a memo claiming Trump was under attack by “globalists and Islamists” and “cultural Marxists.” McMaster also fired Derek Harvey, Trump’s top Middle East adviser, in late July.

In mid-March, Cohen-Watnick was reportedly involved in the summary dismissal of the CIA’s liaison to the White House. Later that month, he reportedly played a role in providing House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) with classified intelligence reports purportedly demonstrating that Trump and members of his transition were incidentally caught up in U.S. surveillance of foreign nationals.

Anthony Scaramucci Says He’ll Speak Publicly Friday

Anthony Scaramucci, the ousted White House communications director, told CNN on Wednesday that he will address the public on Friday in an online event.

Scaramucci said that the event will be available on several public platforms during the day with the help of former Fox News executive Bill Shine, per CNN.

Just on Tuesday, Scaramucci told the Huffington Post that he planned to “go dark” now that he was forced out of the White House.

He was asked to resign by John Kelly, the new White House chief of staff, on Monday after the New Yorker published a profanity-filled rant from Scaramucci about “leakers” and his former White House colleagues.
