Bron didn't leave Cleveland because they weren't bringing in enough help, just so you excuse making dumb ? know that, he wouldn't have left Cleveland if Riley didn't make sense of the idea of those 3 playing together, Miami wasn't always on the radar, Bron could of got players to come to Cleveland, that team was his if he wanted Mike Brown fired he could of had that done, if he wanted more help he could of put them under pressure by demanding a trade if they don't bring in help, Kobe went through worse playing with Smush Parker, Pierce and KG went through worse with Boston and Minny and never walked out on their organizations, it's funny how Boston and Cleveland fans are the ones who remember clearly that he choked but everyone else is bringing up stats and blaming everybody but him, you leave an organization when your team sucks and isn't putting in an effort to make the team better, not when you finish 1st in the NBA and lose a 7 game series in the playoffs, and when you leave you don't do it in the fashion he did, Cleveland didn't do ? wrong he was just a coward who wanted to play with his friends, he's a clown

the issue with the new school NBA has nothing to do with teaming up and everything to do with lack of rivalry and bummy ass ownership who want to profit but not win.

there is nothing close that comes naturally without the free agent market to the bad boy pistons 90s bulls and legendary lakers and c's teams from the 80s. And even if ? teamed up then and all took less to form super teams it would be super teams vs super teams even further. the reason player are talking in all star breaks and olympics about joining forces is because ? ass owners are not building teams to consistently win as much. trust me im a sixers fan i know about recent ? ups that stop a team for rebuilding.

and beyond the super teams and ownership the reason basketball is not as rivalry filled as it used to be is because of public image. ? fought all the time and a little malice at the palace and every nba ? is a thug. just ignore the many nfl players who ? ? and assault yearly one malice equals the NBA is full of "thugs". Not to mention you get fined, ejected etc etc for the smallest ? now they don't even let cats scuffle so they don't bother.

and shame on any black man who is mad players are teaming up and pressuring whtie slave masterlike ownership instead of saying "yes massah im gunna stay in the same market while your profit and don't give me ? to build around. "

Only thing false about the Kobe situation was Shaq left because of the money.....he was trying to ? the lakers with his contract..... Kobe didn't wanna play with Shaq and was planning on signing with the clippers in 2004. But the lakers just didn't wanna pay Shaq they saw the finish line with him , not Kobe running him off

I cant imagine a Melo-Harden-Howard trio. That would only work if Melo lets Harden have the rock a majority of the time.

Makes sense for Carmelo Anthony to leave Knicks and join Miami Heat

    Author: Mitch Lawrence

MIAMI — The answer to all of Carmelo Anthony’s problems is right here, with Pat Riley, LeBron James, a proven championship blueprint in place and none of the idiotic maneuvers that Anthony has to put up with back in New York, such as wayward teammates like Raymond Felton.

Anthony and the Knicks were run off the court when they went up against a masked James Thursday night, as they played for the first time since their latest upheaval, caused by Felton’s arrest on felony gun charges. But what if Anthony decided in July to join forces with his long-time sparring partner?

It makes so much sense, from a basketball standpoint. The Heat would be the best place for Anthony to land, especially when you consider what has been going on with the Knicks this season and how their future is unsettled, at best.

“I was laughing with somebody and just saying, ‘Murphy’s Law,’ Anthony said in the morning, before the Knicks were routed, 108-82, at AmericanAirlines Arena. “Anything that can go wrong has gone wrong for us."

Murphy’s Law was still in effect, especially when the Knicks were abused, 32-14, in the third.

“They made a run and we just crumbled from there,” Anthony said. “It got out of hand.”

Maybe he’ll think about this loss and all the others when he sits down in July and considers whether to take the Knicks’ maximum contract or decides, the heck with all of that money, it can’t buy me happiness on the basketball court. He’s had almost no joy out there, as his string of 10 straight playoff appearances appears over.

“I never experienced before not making the playoffs,” he said. “Unfortunately, we’re in the situation we’re in, right now. Fighting for our life. Fighting for a playoff spot.”

He’d be plenty happy down here, taking passes from James and finding out what it’s like to play for a team that, from ownership on down, knows what it’s doing and understands how to win NBA titles.

There is no talk that the Heat will go after Anthony on July 1, despite the fact that Miami will have to do some retooling in the offseason, regardless of whether James gets Miami a third straight title or falls short. The only buzz is that Miami’s Big Three is past the point of taking fewer dollars than it can get. The days of James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh sacrificing millions for the good of the team are over, according to well-placed Heat sources. So that could play into what Miami could give Anthony, if it would even be interested in his services.

Not that Thursday was an audition. The Heat has seen Anthony put up big numbers for so long, but it couldn’t have hurt when he had 24 of his 29 points in the first half. Once James asserted himself in the third quarter, that was it for the Knicks.

We understand, Anthony still might want to be the big fish in the big pond of New York and get his megacontract, too. He might not want to take a substantial pay cut to go anywhere.

But if he really wants to win, it’s a no-brainer to come here. All he has to do is first look at who’s signing the paychecks. Here, Micky Arison knows enough to leave the basketball to the basketball experts.

In New York, Jim Dolan can’t help himself from dabbling in an area he has no expertise in. Here, Riley is in command of the roster, and it’s come to the point where the job he does in building teams rivals what he did coaching the Lakers in the ’80s, and the Knicks in the early ’90s. Then Anthony can compare that to what he has at the Garden, with rookie GM Steve Mills presiding over what has been a disastrous season, on and off the court.

From J.R. Smith’s drug suspension to Felton’s arrest and everything in between, and all of the losing, if you’re Mills, there couldn’t have been a worse season to have, in terms of convincing Anthony that he should re-sign.

“There’s a lot of options. Things are going to be thought about when that time comes,” Anthony said. “Off the court and on the court. A lot of things will have to be put on the table.”

Riley has been known to put his championship rings on the table, as he did when he went to recruit James.

If by chance he holds the same jewelry show for Anthony in another five months, then what’s the issue?

Anthony should go running to South Beach and never look back.

Heat look to target Carmelo Anthony

MIAMI -- The Miami Heat's immediate focus remains overcoming a 2-1 NBA Finals deficit to the San Antonio Spurs, but discussions have begun within the organization about trying to grow their so-called Big Three into a Big Four, according to sources close to the situation.

Sources told ESPN.com that Heat officials and the team's leading players have already started to explore their options for creating sufficient financial flexibility to make an ambitious run at adding New York Knicks scoring machine Carmelo Anthony this summer in free agency.

The mere concept would require the star trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh to all opt out of their current contracts by the end of the month and likely take further salary reductions in new deals that start next season to give Miami the ability to offer Anthony a representative first-year salary. The Heat also are prevented from making any formal contact with Anthony until July 1 and can do so then only if he opts out of the final year of his current contract. Anthony has until June 23 to notify the Knicks of his intentions, according to sources.

But the success of the Heat's 2010 free-agent bonanza has established them as the NBA's undisputed destination franchise, with owner Micky Arison empowering big-thinking team president Pat Riley to attempt to pull off another coup in the market despite new collective bargaining agreement rules aimed at preventing it.

Sources say internal conversations within the Heat organization about pursuing this course have run concurrently with Miami's bid to win a third consecutive championship, with sources adding that James in particular is likely to try to recoup potential salary sacrificed through fresh off-court business opportunities if the Heat's new dream scenario does come to fruition.

James' off-court business is booming, thanks to a string of investments paying off massively and the prospect of new opportunities in endorsements and entertainment projects promising to expand his wealth significantly in coming years.

In a recent example, while James was leading the Heat to a victory over the Indiana Pacers in the Eastern Conference finals, sources say the 29-year-old was finalizing what is believed to be the biggest equity cash payout for a professional athlete in history as part of Apple's recent $3 billion purchase of Beats Electronics. Sources briefed on the situation say James realized a profit of more than $30 million in cash and stock in the Beats sale after he had struck a deal to get a small stake in the company at its inception in 2008 in exchange for promoting its high-end headphones.

With cooperation from their stars and role players Udonis Haslem and Chris Andersen, who also possess player options for next season, the Heat could open up in excess of $50 million in cap space this summer and have the most financial flexibility in the league. The only Heat player locked into place for next season is Norris Cole at a salary of $2 million, although Riley will have to contend with a handful of cap holds for pending free agents as well as their upcoming first-round pick (No. 26 overall) in the draft later this month.

Getting James, Wade, Bosh, Haslem and Andersen to take pay cuts significant enough to open a significant slot for Anthony undoubtedly will be complex. It would require reductions that could stretch into the tens of millions over the next few seasons. Sources say the Heat's plan is to sell the players they wish to keep on the long-term benefits of making such a sacrifice.

The Heat are in essence trying to emulate some of the longstanding policies employed by their current Finals opponent, as the Spurs have been able to keep Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili together for more than a decade -- while routinely strengthening the supporting cast around them -- because their three best players have been repeatedly willing to take pay cuts.

The Spurs' ability to keep the championship window open by selling their mainstays on such sacrifices has allowed Duncan and Spurs coach Gregg Popovich to make it back to the game's biggest stage 15 years after San Antonio's first Finals appearance in 1999.

James will turn 30 in December, and Bosh, Wade and Anthony all are in their 30s and mindful of their advancing age.

James feels he needs to reduce his workload during the regular season, especially with Wade at a point in his career where knee problems are limiting him to fewer games. Wade missed 28 games during the regular season as part of a maintenance program aimed at keeping him as fresh as possible for the playoffs.

Pairing with Anthony, his close friend and a player who sports a similar skill set, is attractive to James. Anthony and the Heat's three stars have maintained a good relationship since they entered the league together in the 2003 draft class. There is a strong belief that the team concept Miami has forged since 2010 would allow them to learn to be effective all playing together.

Bosh already has indicated publicly on multiple occasions during the playoffs that, despite external suggestions that he could be tempted into moving on and restoring himself as a team's No. 1 option like he was in Toronto, he is determined to stay with the Heat into the future.

But James, as he has all season, sidestepped an attempt at Wednesday's off-day news conference to get him talking about his future, saying: "That's kind of like on the back burner right now."

James insisted he's more focused on "figuring out how I'm going to prioritize Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard and Duncan and Danny Green and Ginobili, Patty Mills and Boris Diaw and Tiago Splitter and the list goes on and on. Matt Bonner, Gregg Popovich and [Spurs assistant] Ime Udoka and those kind of guys. [Free agency] is the last thing I'm thinking about right now."

As ESPN.com reported earlier Wednesday, Anthony must notify the Knicks by June 23 -- essentially one week before the start of free agency -- whether he plans to opt in or out of the final year of his current contract. Sources say Knicks president Phil Jackson continues to urge Anthony to opt into next season's $23.3 million and put off unrestricted free agency for one more year.

Jackson's pitch to Anthony -- which sources say he has delivered more than once over the past month -- is founded upon the notion that the Knicks will have increased financial flexibility in the summer of 2015 to make their own run at James or sign another marquee free agent to pair with a re-signed Anthony.

Should James elect to delay free agency for a year and choose to opt in for the $21 million he's owed by the Heat next season, sources say, he is at the top of the list of free agents the Knicks are telling Anthony they intend to pursue in the summer of 2015.

ESPN's Stephen A. Smith said on his ESPN New York radio show Tuesday and in subsequent interviews that Anthony and James have expressed the mutual desire to play together before their careers end and will look into teaming up if both wind up on the open market in July 2015.

Chicago, Houston and Dallas are teams Anthony will consider starting July 1, sources say, if the 30-year-old does decide to become a free agent this summer. But it's believed the opportunity to join James in Miami would trump all other options, especially after Anthony made it a point earlier this season in an interview for NBA TV to say how "smart" James was to join forces with Wade and Bosh when he did.
