    Merchants of Tarshish

On that note, we return to Ezekiel’s prophecy concerning the reaction of Sheba and Dedan to Gog’s southward advance. As earlier noted, they question his motives, most likely inquiring through diplomatic channels whether or not he is coming to take their riches. But they do not act alone. They are affiliated with, "the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof" (Ezk. 38:13).
Concerning this group, there is no mystery at all. Tarshish is the biblical term for the West. Some have positively identified it as the modern city of Tortosa, on the Spanish east coast. Others have placed it as far north as the ancient seaport of Roman Londinium, today’s London, England. However, it describes not a single location, but the world outside ancient Israel.
The merchants of Tarshish began as the ancient Phoenician traders, whose ships circled the Mediterranean and exited it through the Strait of Gibraltar, before sailing northward toward ports in the territory we now call Europe. They also sailed southward around Africa’s west coast, then around its southern cape, before heading toward the ports of call in the east, where the silk and spice trade awaited them. Some sources say that they sailed as far west as the future territories of North and South America. These merchants were the early global traders. Tarshish is the generic term for their trade in the world at large.
Going west meant leaving the Holy Land and the will of ? , as when Jonah refused a direct order from the Lord:

"Now the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the son of Amittai, saying, "Arise, go to Nineveh, that great city, and cry against it; for their wickedness is come up before me. "But Jonah rose up to flee unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD, and went down to Joppa; and he found a ship going to Tarshish: so he paid the fare thereof, and went down into it, to go with them unto Tarshish from the presence of the LORD" (Jonah 1:1-3).

The prophet Jonah was told to go to Nineveh, a trip that would take him by land, via the trade routes that led northeast. But he knew that Nineveh was a cruel and godless place. He would have nothing to do with taking the Lord’s word there. So he headed to a place where he thought ? would never find him. He fled to Tarshish. He probably wanted to live out the rest of his days there, in the blissful tropics of the western Mediterranean. Maybe he wanted to go even farther, to a place where, even if ? found him, it would be too far to return. This is Tarshish, the Old Testament term for the far-flung continents of the Gentiles.
The princes of ancient Tyre, whom we now call Phoenicians, established the precedents of international trade. Their methods of banking and credit, of sales and management would grow through the centuries to become today’s international banking complex, with its fleets of ships, planes and real-time global monetary system. The entire chapter of Ezekiel 27 is devoted to a lament over the fall of this great system. Indeed, this is one of the Bible’s dominant themes. In the third verse, the tone is set:

"And say unto Tyrus, O thou that art situate at the entry of the sea, which art a merchant of the people for many isles, Thus saith the Lord ? ; O Tyrus, thou hast said, I am of perfect beauty" (Ezekiel 27:3).

Ezekiel’s view of Tyre’s trade routes expands to take in virtually the entirety of the ancient civilized world:

"Tarshish was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of all kind of riches; with silver, iron, tin, and lead, they traded in thy fairs. "Javan, Tubal, and Meshech, they were thy merchants: they traded the persons of men and vessels of brass in thy market. "They of the house of Togarmah traded in thy fairs with horses and horsemen and mules. "The men of Dedan were thy merchants; many isles were the merchandise of thine hand: they brought thee for a present horns of ivory and ebony. "Syria was thy merchant by reason of the multitude of the wares of thy making: they occupied in thy fairs with emeralds, purple, and broidered work, and fine linen, and coral, and agate. "Judah, and the land of Israel, they were thy merchants: they traded in thy market wheat of Minnith, and Pannag, and honey, and oil, and balm. "Damascus was thy merchant in the multitude of the wares of thy making, for the multitude of all riches; in the wine of Helbon, and white wool. "Dan also and Javan going to and fro occupied in thy fairs: bright iron, cassia, and calamus, were in thy market. "Dedan was thy merchant in precious clothes for chariots. "Arabia, and all the princes of Kedar, they occupied with thee in lambs, and rams, and goats: in these were they thy merchants. "The merchants of Sheba and Raamah, they were thy merchants: they occupied in thy fairs with chief of all spices, and with all precious stones, and gold. "Haran, and Canneh, and Eden, the merchants of Sheba, Assur, and Chilmad, were thy merchants" (Ezekiel 27:12-23).

The traders listed above ranged from the Ionians to the Scythians. (And remember, Meshech is in today’s western Russia.) Togarmah, today’s Armenia and Turkey, met with the ancient tribe of Dedan. Even then, they headed up large traveling caravans of goods, borne to the ancient seaports where trade could be established. Above, we discover Dedan specialized in the riding clothes of charioteers.
Syria, Judah and Israel are prominently mentioned. It should also be recalled that Hiram, king of Tyre provided the bulk of the materials for the construction of Solomon’s Temple. The princes of Kedar represented Arabia. Raamah, a son of Cush, was father to Sheba and Dedan. Ptolemaic history places Raamah on the Persian Gulf in eastern Arabia. But again, it should be kept in mind that Arabic tribes, given to constant travel, are difficult to link to any particular geographic location.
Finally, Ezekiel mentions the merchants of Mesopotamia, Assyria and Nineveh. The system of Tarshish brought them all together. Down through the years, the old and established trade routes expanded and strengthened. Many times, they changed hands, but have remained the same, right down to the present era.
The wooden ships of the Dutch East India company followed the very sea lanes habituated by the Phoenicians. In the era of the worldwide British Empire, their ships reigned supreme along the same, identical routes. As sailing skills improved, traders and men of war took to the high seas. Wooden ships were replaced by iron steamers. Today, millions of shipping containers are taken from truck beds and placed aboard trains and diesel cargo vessels, where they cross the sea, to disembark onto identical truck beds in other countries.

Well I don't see a lot of if's and maybes my friend. The descendants of Sheba and Dedan are known as inhabiting Arabia from historical records. Records which can be traced back to their roots in Genesis. So no matter which way you slice the cake Sheba and Dedan are from Arabia.

The prophecy of Gog and Magog was given over 2500+ years ago to Ezekiel. ? used names that would be easily identifiable in Ezekiel days, but maybe a little obscure in our days. But no wonder, for ? says:

"It is the glory of ? to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter." Proverbs 25:2

All we have to do is a dig a little and ? will reveal the rest. Amen.

Enoch, who was the 7th generation from Adam, prophesied about the end of the world even before the flood of Noah. So of course the end of the age has always been at the forefront of the righteous servants of ? . We want His kingdom to come and His will to be done! @imgoingtoheavenru?

since you like to copy and paste let me do so as well

“Sheba and Dedan” are Arabia and the UAE gulf states. As far as the “Ships of Tarshish”, regardless of all the debate over it whether its Spain or the Phoenicians (Lebanon) or a term used of large and distant-voyaging merchant vessels (Isaiah 2:16; 1 Kings 10:22;Psalms 48:7)

What we do know is that biblical Tarshish is lumped together with Turkic regions in Isaiah who clarifies the issue: “Tarshish, Pul and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, …” (Isaiah 66:19). Here, Tarshish, Pul, Lud, Tubal and Javan are thrown together in one “that draws the bow,” and all these are in Turkey. This would throw a monkey wrench in the arguments Tarshish is Spain (1) trying to pass judgments on Spain and Italy as Antichrist since this fits a theological bent and a wish rather than ? ’s judgment on them poor Catholics.

Jonah who in attempting to flee to Tarshish from Israel boarded a ship at the port of Joppa (Israel) on the Mediterranean coast. (Jonah 1:3). This would indicate that Tarshish lies to the west. This is true, but the ships could also sail westward to Turkey and Lebanon. Even so, many modern authors are divided between Tartessos in Iberia (Spain) and Tarsus in Cilicia (Turkey). Cilicia was the ancient name of southern Turkey. Göltepe in Turkey was associated with tin mining; Kestel, located in the central Taurus Mountains of Turkey, also produced tin. Josephus cites “Tharsus” in Turkey “Tharsus to the Tharsians, for so was Cilicia of old called; the sign of which is this, that the noblest city they have, and a metropolis also is Tarsus.” (Josephus, Antiquities of the Jews, 6.1.127.)

Ezekiel 38:13 describes merchants of Tarshish: “Sheba and Dedan and the merchants of Tarshish with all its villages will say to you, ‘Have you come to capture spoil? Have you assembled your company to seize plunder, to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to capture great spoil?’” While this does not conclude which side Sheba, Dedan, and the Merchants of Tarshish are on, it is clear that grabbing ? is an Islamic trait that these nations might enjoy copying. Isaiah, however, tells us about the judgment of the ships of Tarshish, “The burden of Tyre. Howl, ye ships of Tarshish; for it is laid waste, so that there is no house, no entering in: from the land of Chittim it is revealed to them. Be still, ye inhabitants of the isle; thou whom the merchants of Zidon, that pass over the sea, have replenished,” (Isaiah 23:10).

So while the judgment is against “the ships of Tarashish”, it is revealed from the land of Chittim (Rome, Europe). Isaiah 23:6 says, “Pass ye over to Tarshish; howl, ye inhabitants of the isle.” This place is somewhat related to Tarshish and is in close proximity to her in order to “pass over” to her. If Tarshish is Spain, how is Tyre to pass over such a far place? There are some who claim that Tarshish is Europe, noting a prophecy in Isaiah 60 that seems to hint to western ships that carried immigrant Jews to Israel. “Surely the isles shall wait for me, and the ships of Tarshish first, to bring thy sons from far, their silver and their gold with them, unto the name of the LORD thy ? , and to the Holy One of Israel, because he hath glorified thee.” (Isaiah 60:9)

However, this will be fulfilled in the Messianic Kingdom, when all the nations that hated Israel will participate in bringing the exiled Jewish captives back to their land: “The multitude of camels shall cover thee, the dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; all they from Sheba shall come: they shall bring gold and incense; and they shall show forth the praises of the LORD. All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together unto thee, the rams of Nebaioth shall minister unto thee: they shall come up with acceptance on mine altar, and I will glorify the house of my glory,” (Isaiah 60:6-7). They will even flock from Saudi Arabia to worship the real ? —the Holy One of Israel! It is obvious that the Arabs will participate in helping the surviving Jews after Christ returns and completely defeats the Muslim nations. If Europe today is the candidate for the “ships of Tarshish,” which carry Jews back to the homeland, it’s hard to imagine Arabs (Midian, Kedar, Sheba) ever doing such thing. If anything, the Arabs today would rather drown the Jews in the sea than extend assistance to carry them to the land of Israel. Biblical Tarshish is lumped together with Turkic regions. Isaiah clarifies the issue: “And I will set a sign among them, and I will send those that escape of them unto the nations, to Tarshish, Pul and Lud, that draw the bow, to Tubal, and Javan, to the isles afar off, that have not heard my fame, neither have seen my glory; and they shall declare my glory among the Gentiles,” (Isaiah 66:19). Here, Tarshish, Pul, Lud, Tubal and Javan are thrown together in one “that draws the bow,” and all these are in Turkey. Why should only Tarshish be identified as Spain or England?

Russia 'Bombs CIA-Trained Fighters' In Syria

The Kremlin admits Islamic State is not the only target - prompting the US to warn of "dangerous" consequences for Russia.

    http://news.sky.com/story/1561955/russia-bombs-cia-trained-fighters-in-syria

Russian jets have hit a camp operated by a rebel group trained by American CIA agents, it has been claimed.

The strikes were said to be among 30 conducted by Russian planes in Syria after Vladimir Putin entered the conflict on Wednesday.

Russia maintains that 12 Islamic State targets, including an IS command centre, were hit in the wave of strikes.

But Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has now admitted IS is not the only target - and that other anti-Assad groups would be perused.

"If it looks like a terrorist, if it walks like a terrorist, if it acts like a terrorist, if it fights like a terrorist, it's a terrorist," he told reporters at the UN General Assembly in New York.

"We are going to fight ISIL (IS) and other terrorist groups. This is the same position as the Americans are taking.

"We see eye to eye with the coalition on this one."

Mr Lavrov claimed the Free Syrian Army - which has been supported by the US - was not a target and should be part of a political solution.

Sky News' Foreign Affairs Editor Sam Kiley said this was Russia "reaching out" to the US.

But the Liwa Suqour al-Jabal rebel group, which says it received training by CIA agents in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, has apparently been hit in the initial strikes.

The anti-Assad group's leader, Hassan Haj Ali, said its training camp in Idlib province was struck by about 20 missiles in two separate sorties.

Meanwhile, the Kremlin denied reports the attacks had killed at least 36 civilians, including five children.

Russia, which sees the regime of Bashar al-Assad as a strategic ally in the Middle East, began strikes after a request from the government in Damascus.

There are currently 32 Russian warplanes based near the Syrian port city of Latakia, guarded by 1,700 Russian marines.

Defence Secretary Ashton Carter accused Russia of "pouring gasoline on the fire" with airstrikes in Syria.

Mr Lavrov's was asked about this comment by reporters in New York.

"We know about many fires gasolined by the Pentagon," he said.

Diplomats from Russia and the US have met for a third time in a week to try to find common ground on Syria.

But the White House said Russia had failed to learn from history if it thought it could impose a military solution on Syria by wiping out all opposition to Mr Assad.

It said: "Russia will be no more successful than the US was in imposing a military solution on Iraq, or Russia was in imposing a military solution on Afghanistan."

The White House added that a military intervention would be "dangerous" for Russia as it would be dragged into what would become an "indefinite" conflict.

Elsewhere, Russia said it would consider any request from Iraq to strike against IS there.

But Mr Lavrov did not comment at the UN on reports of a joint Iran-Syria ground offensive.

Hundreds of Iranian troops have arrived in Syria in the last 10 days.

An estimated 250,000 people have been killed in Syria's four-year civil war between Mr Assad's troops, rebel groups and Islamic State.

Jerusalem is the city of the great King. No place i'd rather be then right here in the holy city!

Israel will be attacked when Gog and Magog come like a cloud to cover the land on the day of sudden destruction as Ezekiel 38-39 speak of. Plus Israel will suffer many judgments throughout the tribulation period. And yes, the antichrist will rule from here for 42 months, but will come to his end and that without hand! Amen.

Plus Israel will suffer many judgments throughout the tribulation period. And yes, the antichrist will rule from here for 42 months, but will come to his end and that without hand! Amen.

The ground on which I was standing is where the antichrist will rule from. It's the most contested site on planet earth. The temple mount. Amen.

    Deuteronomy 16:16
    Deuteronomy 31:10-13
    Deuteronomy 12:5
    Leviticus 23:23-44
    Zechariah 14:16-19
    Joel 2:31-32
    Jeremiah 6:16

? put it on my heart to walk in the ancient paths where the good way is so that I could find rest for my soul. Thus I started by making the pilgrimage feasts that ? gave to His people for a perpetual statue to be observed.

Turkey, coalition partners, call on Russia to cease Syria air strikes

ISTANBUL (Reuters) - Turkey and its partners in the U.S.-led coalition against Islamic State called on Russia on Friday to cease its attacks on the Syrian opposition and focus on fighting Islamist militants, expressing "deep concern" over Moscow's air strikes.

In a joint statement with the United States, Britain, France, Germany and Gulf Arab allies, Turkey said Russia's actions constituted a "further escalation" of the conflict and would only fuel more extremism.

"We express our deep concern with regard to the Russian military build-up in Syria and especially ‎the attacks by the Russian Air Force on Hama, Homs and Idlib since yesterday which led to civilian casualties and did not target Daesh," it said.

Daesh is another name for the Islamic State group. Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday assertions that civilians had been killed in Russian air strikes in Syria were an "information attack".

Russia's decision to join the war with air strikes on behalf of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad this week, and the increased military involvement of Iran, could mark a turning point in a conflict that has drawn in most of the world's military powers.

Hundreds of Iranian troops have arrived in Syria to join a major ground offensive in support of Assad's government, Lebanese sources said on Thursday, a sign the civil war is turning still more regional and global in scope.

The Bear wants to eat and look he has drawn the participants of the Gog and Magog war into the theater that ? spoke about some 2500+ years ago through the prophet Ezekiel.

The "evil thought" is soon to come. ? have mercy!

"10Thus saith the Lord ? ; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought: 11And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, 12To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. 13Sheba, and Dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof, shall say unto thee, Art thou come to take a spoil? hast thou gathered thy company to take a prey? to carry away silver and gold, to take away cattle and goods, to take a great spoil?" Ezekiel 38:10-13

Sheba, dedan, and the merchants of Tarshish, with all the young lions thereof are wondering what Russia is doing! Why have they come? What is the purpose!

It's playing out exactly like scripture declares!

    Amen

Talk of a no-fly zone......Russia immediately counters and says air strikes will continue for 3-4 months and INTENSIFY!

Clinton Backs Potential No-Fly Zone in Syria

    http://abcnews.go.com/Politics/wireStory/clinton-backs-potential-fly-zone-syria-34192896

Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Rodham Clinton said Thursday she would push for a no-fly zone and safe regions in Syria to address the humanitarian crisis that has spilled out in the Middle East.

"I personally would be advocating now for a no-fly zone and humanitarian corridors to try to stop the carnage on the ground and from the air," Clinton said in an interview with WHDH-TV in Boston.

Russia launched its first airstrikes in Syria on Wednesday against what it said were Islamic State targets. But U.S. officials and Syrian opposition leaders have said the strikes hit areas not controlled by the Islamic State.

Secretary of State John Kerry, who succeeded Clinton at the State Department, has raised concerns that Russia was not targeting the Islamic State but hitting positions of moderate rebels opposed to Syrian President Bashar Assad.

Clinton, following campaign events in the Boston area, said in a separate interview with WCVB-TV that the U.S. should look seriously at the no-fly zone and humanitarian corridors, "but at this point we have to put a lot of pressure on Russia."

Supporters of a no-fly zone in Syria have said it would help stem the flow of refugees and neutralize Assad's warplanes and helicopters. The U.S. has so far resisted the calls.

Clinton's stance puts her at odds with the Obama administration. White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Tuesday that the White House wasn't considering a no-fly zone.

"It raises a whole set of logistical questions about how exactly what would be enforced, what sort of resources would be used to actually protect that area," he told reporters aboard Air Force One.

The Syrian civil war, which grew out of an uprising against Assad, has killed more than 250,000 people since March 2011 and sent millions of refugees fleeing to other countries in the Middle East and to Europe.

    Russian counter......

Russian air strikes in Syria to last 3-4 months: Russian lawmaker

Paris (AFP) - Russian air strikes in Syria will last for three to four months and will intensify, a senior Russian lawmaker said Friday as President Vladimir Putin was due in Paris for talks.

"There is always a risk of getting bogged down but in Moscow they're talking about three to four months of operations," Alexei Pushkov, the head of the foreign affairs committee of Russia's lower house of parliament, told France's Europe 1 radio.

Pushkov said more than 2,500 air strikes by the US-led coalition in Syria had failed to inflict significant damage on the jihadist Islamic State group, but Russia's campaign would be more intensive to achieve results.

"I think it's the intensity that is important. The US-led coalition has pretended to bomb Daesh (another name for Islamic State) for a year, without results.

"If you do it in a more efficient way, I think you'll see results," he said.

Putin is due to hold talks with President Francois Hollande in the French capital on Syria before attending a summit also involving the leaders of Ukraine and Germany aimed at consolidating the fragile peace in Ukraine.

Citing witnesses a monitoring group said Friday two children were among at least seven civilians killed in air strikes carried out by Russian warplanes in Syria's northwestern province of Idlib.

Four civilians, including a child and a woman, were killed in the district of Jabal al-Zawiya, in an area under the control of Al-Qaeda's affiliate in Syria and other Islamist rebel groups, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"Three other civilians, including a girl and a woman, were killed in bombing by these planes of the village of Habeet," in the same province that borders Turkey, said the group, which relies on a network of sources on the ground for its information.
