He was clearly holding a Best Actress in a Leading Role envelope. They probably keep duplicates if something happens to the original envelope. Whoever handed him that envelope is ? for life.

Never watched La La Land, but of all the clips I've seen the acting was not on par with those other movies. Even when they showed Ryan and Emma's clip for best actor/actress, I wasn't impressed, especially next to the other nominees.

Like I stated in my review for La La Land the last 15-20 minutes were the best sequence of the movie and for technical effort the opening sequence in the traffic jam...
Apart from that it's a pretty average movie -
