"In '88 you was getting chased through your building
Calling my crib and I ain't even give you my number"
That line made me bust out laughing when I heard it -

KNEE-GROW please -
I just remember thinking after takeover that Nas had no chance and his career was over. Because most of what Jay said in that song was what ppl were thinking about Nas, in general.
And then when ether dropped, I remember thinking got damn the kid is back. I can't remember if I heard ether before or after got urself a gun, but the combination of those songs got me thinking Nas was back. The takeover diss really helped Nas get his focus and hunger back -

first time i heard this was lying way back relaxed on my bed in my flat, smokin some orange bud ? , the beat dropped and i was hollld on, then that ? JAYZ had me sit up like my spine just straightened up, then i was on my feet and with every bar moved more towards the speakers, in the end im stood over the pioneer speakers straight screwface like shiittt... hes going off, couldnt believe what i was hearing
favourite part is when nas starts going all matter of fact just reeling ? off .. 'youre ass went from jazz to hanging with kane to irv to big, eminem murdered you on your own ? ....'

MY ? !
I was going to school in BK (I'm a Queens cat) at the time, and I was catching all sorts of hell for being a Nas fan, especially after Takeover dropped. Didn't matter what I did, ? found a way to bring Takeover into the convo.
The week Ether dropped and Jay was sniffling and had Angie hand him Kleenex to wipe his tears, ? didn't have a thing to say. Silent as hell. You woulda thought their mothers had died by the way these guys looked. -

This day is one of my best hip hop memories. I was a huge Jay Z fan and used to eat up all the tapes with the disses and freestyles going back and forth. I remember going crazy when tapes leaked with the takeover diss and thinking Jay just deaded Nas' career.
Then one afternoon I was in a cab going to Brooklyn and the cabdriver had hot 97 on and they were teasing this ? then they finally played it. I knew it was a wrap for Jay at that point. They played this ? the entire ride and I was sad too man, like damn, he didn't have to do Jay like that. Lol, I was so tight I didn't even tip the cab driver.
Not to hijack the thread but I also remember the disappoint of Superugly dropping. Again, Hot97 hyped the ? outta it and then they finally played it and it was aaaaaaaaaassssssssssssssssssd.
Imagine what that ? would have been like if we had social media back then. -
Maaaaaan Ether was the conversation of the day at school when that dropped.

@_? _
Nas career boils down to one record with another mans legacy tied into it that's sad, seriously man -
Lol! No ? , I got the urge to listen to this about an hour ago and started bumping it while I was washing dishes. Then I come here and see this lol.
