DMX- built up his buzz in late '97 with features on Mase's Harlem World album, The Lox's Money Power Respect and LL's 4321. Then once he dropped Get at Me Dog, things took off, he dropped the It's Dark and Hell Is Hot album which featured Ruff Ryders Anthem and Stop Being Greedy, he then dropped a 2nd album in late 98 Flesh of My Flesh Blood of My Blood.
Jay Z- this was his mainstream breakout after being around for over a decade in different capacities. He was on Jermaine Dupri's Money Ain't a Thang which was his breakout hit plus he was on the Dr Dolittle soundtrack which had Can I on it, dropped the Hard Knock Life album in late 98 which featured the self title smash hit.
Big Punisher- built up his buzz in late 97 and it carried over into 98 with features and the masterpiece Capital Punishment.
Master P- this was his biggest year commercially, he dropped Ghetto D in late 97 and it carried him into 98, he dropped Make Em Say Ugh as well as the remix which was big that year. He dropped the Last Don in mid 98, and also dropped I Got The Hookup as well as the soundtrack.
Outkast- they dropped arguably their most critically acclaimed album Aquemini in 98 which featured Skew It on The Bar B, as well as Rosa Parks and The Art of Storytelling.

Master PI was living in NYC during 1998 and Master P was getting just as much play as everybody else on the list.
Me and my roommates used to watch I'm Bout It every day. -
Master PBecame a P fan when I heard Ghetto D in my cousin's car during Christmas Break in 97. Then Tha Last Don and I Got The Hookup came out and it was a wrap.
But you truly can't go wrong w/ either Jay,Pun,X,or Kast. They all had huge records and probably sold like 20+ mil albums collectively. -
Other (specify)I live in Des Moines Iowa and this ? was on the radio like 2x every hour

DMXX dominated the streets and charts that year...all while smokin rocks

DMX1998 starts with X and ends with X. Point blank, period. He joined Pac as the only rappers to have two #1 albums in the same year. And he was selling a shitload of albums despite his music having little mainstream appeal.
P and Jigga are fighting for 2nd place.
No diss to Pun, but Id put Snoop at least equal to him. 'Da Game is to Be Sold, Not to Be Told' wasnt a classic by any means, but it went Gold the first week and put Snoop down with the No Limit tank solidifying the No Limit era. -

Master PMaster P made some powerful moves thats why I voted for him.
But in hindsight, most of those No Limit albums were garbage.
I still say Master P was the MVP of 1998 -
