At the time me and my friends thought that the West Coast rappers were too simple. I mean the sonic quality was good and they rapped on beat, but lyrically it wasn't advanced. They rapped like Rakim and LL Cool J in 1987.
West coast was just way more straight forward, raw emotion. Tupac and biggie who are their coast's respective goats for example. Pac was real passionate and relatable, Biggie was real flashy and had word play. Its representative of the regions they came up through. Doesnt make one better than the other its just opinion but u can be regarded as the goat using either style. Both serve its purpose and that balance is necessary imo. -
