He's kinda right though. If we constantly cry about what our ancestors went through or what white people did to us in the past, we waste a ? ton of energy that could be put towards bettering our futures and maybe one day achieving equality. White people aren't just gonna give us equality, we have to fight for it every day, and achieve it by making something significant out of ourselves. We aren't gonna do that by pitying ourselves for the past.
That being said I understand that our kids do need to grow up knowing who they are and why they are the way the are, but living in the past aint gonna fix the future.
And not ALL white people are horrible or racist, and not everything is a "set up" to hold us back. At least 75% of white people i have met aren't racist, they may be ignorant because they have never been familiarized with non-white people, but they aren't racist. A human baby isn't born with the concept of racism. -

Let me get one thing straight here. I do understand that blacks get treated badly, and i do understand that racism is alive and kicking real strong still. I experience it just like anybody else on here. I'm trying to make a few points though:
1. Blacks are NOT treated worse than any other minority. How do i know this? because i've first hand experienced it. I'm not black (technically I am of African descent, but thats another discussion), but i look blacker than most black people in America, so to any black white or latino person on the street, i'm black, and i get treated as such. And i know what its like. But some of my family doesn't look black, and i've seen how they get treated, and it isn't any better. The reason the "data" may make it seem like blacks get treated worse is because there just isn't a large enough population of other races here to collect valid data. There aren't arab communities, arab's are interspersed everywhere, so no one studies how they are actually treated. There aren't indian communities, we make up less than 1% of the population, so no one studies how we are treated either. So the only races that are even compared are black, latino, and white.
2. I don't see how i'm contradicting myself. What i'm saying is that yes, we should understand our past, what happened to our forefathers, and how they were mistreated. But we should also not pity ourselves over it and consume ourselves by the thought of it. We have to move forward, and the only way we gonna do that is by not focusing on our past hinderances, and instead focusing on our future goals. Why can't we be like white people in some ways? Why can't we focus on the value of our kids education from the time they are young, and not focus on how fresh they look or how "hard" they are? Why can't we learn to not have kids until we are 100% sure we are ready to stand by them, and raise em properly? Why can't we stop beefing over stupid ? and instead use our energy to get up out of the situations we are in and get to a better place? Thats what i dont get...
3. "Forgive but don't forget." Can any of you honestly say that if you were born white, you would actively try to forsake your benefits just to prove that you aren't racist? Just because a white man doesn't do anything to help black people doesnt mean he hates black people either. We gotta understand that. A lot of people are just neutral, they dont care if we succeed or fail. Theyre not racist, they're just apathetic. I been through some nice suburbs, and ive seen the black kids in those schools, and they have white friends, and they get good educations, and white people treat them just like they treat each other. The problem is, those are the minority of black people, and most black people aren't able to get themselves into those situations. Yes some white people are racist ? , but most aren't, and they aren't solely to blame for our problems -

Not to go to far off-topic...but hispanics(mexicans) labeled themselves as caucasian back in the day too because they to also thought blacks were inferior..so ? them.I live in Houston so i look at a mexican sideways and think about that film i saw about that issue...and it took place here so they can't run from it its in the history books.
