People forgetting to mention that he is a young cat, so his perception on hip hop may be different. He may not have Too Short or whatever random Hiero member on the list, but it's his list, and a respectable one at that. Generic as it is, you'd be hard pressed to find a list without ANY of those names on it.

LMAO @ HRap... relax homes, it's just music.

I'm not unrelaxed, I'm watching Bos Vs Phi, I just expressed surprise at the list homes.

Not a big deal as people are pretending it is.

lmao @ the feelings in here. h-rap disowning kendrick because he put em in his top 5. haters saying "that list is too generic" but I bet you guys would hate just as much if he named a bunch of obscure underground west coast rappers, or rappers you thought were wack.

I always take the em mention with a grain of salt when it comes to rappers signed to aftermath, shady, or gunit though.

Bruh, ask any person who doesn't know ? about hip-hop and their top 5 will look the same way and probably in the same exact order. Not because they're the best, but because they're the most popular.

Test it out. Ask any white dude (who's not a hip-hop head) who their top 5 is and I GUARANTEE, it'll include at least 4 out of the 5 rappers Lamar just listed.

If he truly knew about the hip-hop scene he would at least have someone from the west in his list. At least someone that everyone thinks is good like Cube.

    Tupac
    Biggie
    Nas\Jay Z
    Eminem

“My top five, dead or alive. Tupac, definitely. Tupac because the emotion that he put in and how much he related to the people, and how much he connected. That’s what music is about,” he said. “Music is supposed to move, whether you’re saying the most intricate stuff or the most simple, dumbed down. You gotta make some type of connection, and I feel like he did that the best.”

He flipped his attention to the East Coast, naming The Notorious B.I.G. as another of his choice emcees. “Biggie, because of his wit. Biggie’s wit was incredible. His wit and his character, his personality and his flow and most of all, his confidence. Anybody that can talk about themselves on a record and still have screaming women at the front of the stage, unless you know it goes a long way with your confidence in being an artist.

“Jay-Z, it’s an incredible thing where you can listen to his music and feel like you’re having a sit-down with him,” he continued. “Nas, the art of storytelling, I think Hip Hop is really based on that and getting your point across. Nas does that incredibly. Eminem, just being a wordsmith, an amazing wordsmith.”

    http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/news/id.19766/title.kendrick-lamar-lists-his-top-five-favorite-rappers

If that is his legitimate list, then good for him.

If he's just listing what people are expecting to hear, since the first two have been immortalized by death, and the last three are the "industry standard" as far as what usually appears on a mainstream artist's list of "best or favorite rappers," then it's business as usual.
