Her collared dress comes down to her knees but that’s not far enough for some. Her cardigan leaves everything to the imagination, which for some is exactly the problem.

It’s hard not to detect more than a dash of sexism in the online criticism of fourth grade teacher Paris Monroe, whose Instagram account has elicited some finger wagging commentary from viewers despite the fact that she’s conservatively dressed in all of the attention grabbing images.

Her defenders say this is body shaming taken to a whole new level. Still, others say there is a double standard at play, both in terms of her race and body type, arguing that if a more petite woman who wasn’t black wore the outfits, no one would be saying anything. Al of the attention led to the hashtag #teacherbae trending on Twitter, a nickname apparently given to the Atlanta educator.

Some of the comments seemed more tongue in cheek, commenting on Monroe’s attractive appearance, such as one user who wrote, “Thank ? my teachers did not look like this coming up or I would not have learned anything!”

But others seemed legitimately offended a school teacher wearing normal attire to her professional career, implying that her natural body size and appearance were too provocative for them to tolerate.

In an interview with Daily Dot, Monroe points out that she recently won a teacher of the month award and wishes the attention on her would go where it rightfully belongs:

“I just wish they would respect me and focus on the positive and what truly matters—which is educating the children of the future generations and providing and caring for them."

Thankfully, many people online concur, as the number of posts standing up for this proud educator seem to be outshining the concern trolling commenters.
