Lol @ "we thought about having players enter through the stands during intros but that would highlight the empty seats"

    ? pathetic

It would be stupid as hell to have them walking down steps anyway

But no matter what your thoughts are on whether or not Levenson's comments were "racist" (they were and I'll explain why) look at the picture he paints of white people. White ignorance/racism/bigotry/hate is foundational to so many of the decisions they make in life and Levenson knows that. It's disgusting and shameful.

What he said was racist because he was looking to make moves to support the tendencies of white racists by alienating black fans. His "analysis" is laughable because he actually feels like a breakdown along color lines paints an accurate picture...but there are many other demographic elements to be considered.

Fact is that white people outnumber black ppl in this country.....so technically there are more affluent white people than there are affluent black people in this country...this is one of those things where just simply stating something is offensive....Im sure some people may feel the way Levenson felt and keep it to themselves but for a dude in a position to make huge profits he felt he couldn't afford to keep losing money so he wasnt tryna sugar coat any longer.

Basically this is one of those things that will bring out the overly sensitive ppl and objective ppl. I dont feel he was being racist but I can see how sensitive cats would feel that way cause its a sensitive issue.

In the fallout of alleged racist remarks made by Atlanta Hawks owner Bruce Levenson, ESPN has uncovered that investigations into these comments were sparked by a scouting report on new Miami Heat player Luol Deng

It was originally reported that Hawks owner Bruce Levenson had admitted to his own racist comments from an email exchange with Atlanta general manager Danny Ferry. The email, which you can read here, details Levenson's opinions on the Hawks fanbase.

As a result of the disturbing content of the email message, Levenson had indicated that he would sell his portion of the team.

However, ESPN is now reporting that the message only came to light as a result of an investigation that began three months ago. The investigation began after racist comments were included in a scouting report on Luol Deng.

As per ESPN, "the Hawks held a meeting in early June to discuss potential free-agent targets...Ferry cited a background report that included an "offensive and racist" remark about a player."

ESPN's Marc Stein has confirmed that the player in question is Deng (via Twitter):

ESPN sources say that the player referred to in the initial Hawks' background report that triggered the ensuing investigation was Luol Deng
    — Marc Stein (@ESPNSteinLine) September 8, 2014

Deng has not provided a comment at this time.

The NBA has been very proactive in eliminating Donald Sterling's overt racism from the ranks of its various owners. With Levenson reportedly set to sell his portion of the team, it is unclear if any further action will be taken.
Stay tuned as more details on this story continue to break.

    Woj just dropped this

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/sources--gm-danny-ferry-s-reference-to-luol-deng-s-african-heritage-initiated-hawks-investigation-162901096.html

The trigger of events that led to the toppling of Atlanta Hawks owner Bruce Levenson began with general manager Danny Ferry referring to free agent Luol Deng as still having "some African in him" on an organizational conference call, league sources with direct knowledge of the probe told Yahoo Sports.

"He's still a young guy overall," Ferry said, league sources with direct knowledge of the probe told Yahoo. “He's a good guy overall. But he's not perfect. He's got some African in him. And I don't say that in a bad way.
    "

Deng, considered one of the highest character players in the NBA, was born in the Sudan.

The call with the ownership group had been set up to inform them of free-agent options on the market in July.

Ferry met with the Hawks coaches and players on Sunday and disclosed those comments with an apology, sources told Yahoo Sports.

Hawks CEO Steve Koonin told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution that Ferry had received an undisclosed punishment, but would remain as GM.

The disparaging racial reference to Deng triggered at least one team owner on the call to pursue an independent investigation into how the organization operated in regard to race. The search uncovered the 2012 email that Levenson sent to Ferry and two minority owners that ultimately led to Levenson's decision, under pressure, to sell his stake in the Hawks.

Ferry was on the phone with seven Hawks owners and was reading off a report prepared for him based upon a network of information sources from around the league.

Commissioner Adam Silver met with a senior committee of owners late last week in New York, and NBA investigators outlined the findings on the probe in Atlanta, sources told Yahoo Sports. The NBA and Hawks officials helped convince Levenson to sell his majority share of the Hawks.

Ferry and Deng both played basketball at Duke University. Deng signed a free-agent deal with the Miami Heat this off-season. Atlanta did discuss a deal with him, but hadn't come close to meeting his contractual demands.

Atlanta hired Ferry as its general manager in 2012. He had served as an assistant GM twice in San Antonio, and was the GM of the Cleveland Cavaliers for five years. There had never previously been a suggestion that he had been insensitive or intolerant on issues of race.

Coming from a white American that sounds wrong b/c we know their tendencies.

    I won't defend him

But If I said a player coming from overseas still had Euro tendencies that would be in relation to our perception of many of their players being soft or averse to rough physical play, etc. Would that be "racist"? IDK if that's the word for it.

Like I said knowing white's tendencies I'm not gonna give the benefit of the doubt. I'd like to hear clarification (not that I'd be eager to believe it).

Meh they'll probably fine him for reading but that'll probably be it.

The "around the league" part is what the NBA should be worried about the most.

NBA close to a new TV deal with ESPN/Turner, no major changes though. At ESPN's request, no other network will be involved. Same deal but more money. Unfortunately, the finals will remain on ABC but the NBA on TNT doubleheader will stay on Thursdays.
