Irish, Native American, and Jamaican blood in the family tree. Most of the mixing took place during my great grandparents time and earlier. I've been told that much.

My sister tried to do the ancestry thing but there was some problem she had finding certain documents or something.

Sending off DNA to a complete stranger only to get a piece of paper back with some ? race results sounds stupid to me, stop obsessing over skin color and live your life.

There's nothing wrong with knowing and appreciating your lineage. ? already witcha ? .

I had to block that Mee Too poster. They have joined a short list with only untalentedcoon.

Anyway. I thought about it, but not paying that money and if its fake then ? these scammers. Despite my lightskin I am black and that is all that needs to be said. Only thing I would like to know is where my African origins come from.

I was raised by two black parents & I'm not claiming that 24% because all I know is black & there's nothing wrong with that.

That 24% is insignificant. When you're 50% of something or more THEN you should pay attention.

Understandable that you don't relate to that percentage but lmao @ a quarter of ones being, considered as insignificant, especially from a genetic standpoint

Scottish, Irish, German and French are different ethnic groups with different cultures, just like Yoruba, Mandinka, Hausa, Zulu and Luo are different ethnic groups with very different cultures despite all being black Africans. There is no one single European culture. Outsiders have a harder time seeing the differences between related groups. It's just fun for people to talk about their family heritage.

@ AyeB_ I wonder where the Melanesian came from.

On one hand I think it would make sense for you to acknowledge all of your ancestry, as a predominately African descended woman with some European and Melanesian heritage (I consider Melanesians to be black), technically you are 'mixed', despite being mostly black, but in some ways I can relate. My family is from Zambia and my actual ancestry is 87.5% bantu African and 12.5% English - my DNA doesn't necessarily reflect that (I probably have slightly more or less than 12.5 actual Euro DNA). I would rather just say African, most of the time.

One thing I'm curious about is to what extent English people descend from Germanic invaders vs. indigenous Celtic people of Britain who only adopted the Anglo-Saxon language, culture and identity, is there a mainstream position among historians?

I look forward to knowing my complete ancestry. Knowledge of self on a cellular level can be powerful.

Are there any at home ancestry test kits?
