Don't see how people can be upset about this. It's great for the genre. Jay z gets the nod over most because he has cross over appeal as well. This is great for rap if your upset may be you need to grow up

Naw bruh when you start asking what songs has Jay wrote over years where he deserves to be in it becomes either hating or lack of knowledge at that point especially when your example is song cry I mean you DO realize they look at much more then just your singles right??? And they also judge it off of much more then who has the most heartfelt introspective story telling lyrics.... I mean he just got a platinum plaque for I got the keys and he been in this game doing that forever now.... So hate or lack of knowledge I'll let you call it -
IMO Nas is a better writer than Jay. Jay is in my top 5. I just think Nas is superior and more creative.

They haven't proven to be better song writers over the same stretch of time.... It's like comparing Curry hot years of excellence to a player that was great for 20 years... No other rapper has had this kinda run of writing songs that still matter to the public both fans of that genre and outside of that genre so for that the only real choices that would make sense are him or Em -

Ice cube '88 to '08 but he talked about Jews so that's why he didn't get get the first nod but I doubt he get in. I think nas is a better writer -

As far as Eminem goes, he is extremely qualified, but the committee felt that Jay Z was more qualified to be the first rapper to be inducted. (An interesting note there is that the committee has always been conscious of honoring the fathers before the children, so to speak. I would say it is a respect issue.) I feel very proud of the Nominating Committee to bite the bullet and to include a rapper on the ballot and even prouder of our membership who voted to induct Jay Z. It is history-making for us and our members obviously have open minds in accepting and celebrating all genres of songwriting.”

Salute to the man, even tho I feel that there are other emcees out there who deserved this honor first, I'll give credit where its due and give the brother props on the accomplishment. Hopefully it opens the doors for others in the future.
