but then oreder of operatons say multiplication first and the answer is diff. I hate math
-
"........................................" -
its 2................
-
Cats is showing they education level in this one lmao
-
replace 9+3 with x...
48÷2(x)= 48/2x = 24/x
so, if x= 9+3= 12
then, 24/x= 24/12= 2
ya feel me?
Unless grouped with the "2" by a set of parenthesis or explicitly shown under the fraction bar like in the above example, there is no reason to assume that (9+3) is in the denominator.
This is the mistake people are making. -
multiplication before division
-
SMH @ ? falling for math trolls in 2011.
-
Pemdas.................
-
i just asked my boy on fb who has a computer science degree dude said 2
-
safe to say aint no math geniuses in this ?
-
so you interpret 48/2x as meaning (48/2)(x)?
-
9+3 is 12, then divide 48 by 2 thats 24, then multiply 24 by 12 thats 288
-
trust google alright bruh its 2
-
man I deleted all my posts cuz at first I got 288 then I was convinced it was 2 =, then young ice came with the google calculator and now this ? with redhandedbandit...i need to go back to school
its 2 though...multiplication takes precendence over division according to pemdas. -
People coming up with 288 arent "solving" the Parentheses first.
In order to solve it you have to distribute the 2 first. So, 2(9+3) = 18+6 = 24
48/24 = 2 -

That's where you its different. Unless specifically stated then you shouldnt add the parentheses yourself. -
the 2 isn't part of the brackets bro. It's outside the brackets.
I know... thats why I typed 2(9+3)...
You have to distribute first. -
SMH @ This ? :

okay....damn I hate math -
very simple....288

It isn't. -
People. These are different problems
48/2(9+3) = 2
(48/2)(9+3) = 288 -
never have i been so proud and so ashamed at a thread at the same time....smh our school systems are really failing us
-
Its 2 google is wrong

exactly. and as such, you don't multiply the 2 with the 12 during brackets phase. you wait until multiply/divide phase
multiply and divide are really one phase of the solving process. You dont do them in order that they come in according to pedmas, you do them in order that you see them from left to right in the equation.
in the case of this equation, you'd divide 48 by 2, and then multiply it by 12.
You're interpreting it wrong.
The parentheses dont go away by adding 9+3.
It doesnt go away until there are no factors outside the parentheses. The 2 being there modifies whatever is in the parentheses. 48/2(12) = 48/24
