Game Calls Trayvon Martin Death Proof 'Stupidity Still Exists'
'We as a people have always been targeted,' Compton MC tells MTV News of teen's racially charged shooting death.

The tragic killing of Trayvon Martin has had Americans across the country rallying for justice. But rapper Game believes, as others do, that the 17-year-old's death is part of a deeply rooted racial issue.

"I think that from the beginning of mankind, we as a people have always been targeted," the Compton MC told MTV News on March 22.

On February 26, Martin was shot dead by neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman as he walked back to the home of a family friend in a gated Sanford, Florida, community. Zimmerman told police that he believed Martin — who was wearing a hooded sweatshirt — looked suspicious. After a call to 911, the dispatcher advised him not to pursue Martin. But Zimmerman reportedly ignored those instructions and pursued Martin anyway.

When police arrived on the scene, the teen was dead. Although Zimmerman admitted to the shooting, police declined to arrest him citing the state's Stand Your Ground law, which allows a person to ? in cases of self-defense. Trayvon's parents, community leaders and protestors were outraged and have been crying for justice ever since.

"For some, reason people don't think that they need any excuse to ? us, beat us, hit us, run us over, disrespect us or anything like that," Game said of the country's history of racial tension and violence.

"I'm far from racist," he continued. "I'm very educated and intellectual and I understand how life works and how people of all colors exist under the sun, but it just seems like more than not black people are, I don't know, there's always some negative occurrence that goes on in our existence. This is just another reminder that stupidity still exists."

On Monday, the Orlando Sentinel reported that unidentified investigators in the case told them that Zimmerman had a different take on the events of February 26. The 28-year-old told law enforcement that Martin struck him and bashed his head on the ground before he shot the teenager in the chest, killing him.

    BREAKING NEWS!!!!!

Investigator wanted manslaughter charges against Zimmerman

The lead homicide investigator in the shooting of unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin recommended that neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman be charged with manslaughter the night of the shooting, multiple sources told ABC News.

But Sanford, Fla., Investigator Chris Serino was instructed to not press charges against Zimmerman because the state attorney’s office headed by Norman Wolfinger determined there wasn’t enough evidence to lead to a conviction, the sources told ABC News.

Police brought Zimmerman into the station for questioning for a few hours on the night of the shooting, said Zimmerman’s attorney, despite his request for medical attention first. Ultimately they had to accept Zimmerman’s claim of self defense. He was never charged with a crime.

Serino filed an affidavit on Feb. 26, the night that Martin was shot and killed by Zimmerman, that stated he was unconvinced Zimmerman’s version of events.

Zimmerman, 28, claimed he shot Martin, 17, in self defense.

One complicating factor in the investigation was that the first detective to interview Zimmerman about the shooting was a narcotics officer rather than a homicide detective.

The State Attorney’s office said only “no comment” when asked about the affidavit today.

The revelation is the latest salvo in a war of leaks meant to bolster each side amid rising tension over the shooting.

Trayvon Martin Video Shows No Blood or Bruises on George Zimmerman

A police surveillance video taken the night that Trayvon Martin was shot dead shows no blood or bruises on George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch captain who says he shot Martin after he was punched in the nose, knocked down and had his head slammed into the ground.
The surveillance video, which was obtained exclusively by ABC News, shows Zimmerman arriving in a police cruiser. As he exits the car, his hands are cuffed behind his back. Zimmerman is frisked and then led down a series of hallways, still cuffed.

Zimmerman, 28, is wearing a red and black fleece and his face and head are cleanly shaven. He appears well built, hardly the portly young man depicted in a 2005 mug shot that until a two days ago was the single image the media had of Zimmerman.

The initial police report noted that Zimmerman was bleeding from the back of the head and nose, and after medical attention it was decided that he was in good enough condition to travel in a police cruiser to the Sanford, Fla., police station for questioning.

His lawyer later insisted that Zimmerman's nose had been broken in his scuffle with 17-year-old Martin.

In the video an officer is seen pausing to look at the back of Zimmerman's head, but no abrasions or blood can be seen in the video and he did not check into the emergency room following the police questioning.

Zimmerman was not arrested although ABC News has learned that the lead homicide investigator filed an affidavit urging Zimmerman be charged with manslaughter. The prosecutor, however, told the officer to not file the charge because there was not enough evidence for conviction.

Zimmerman said he was heading back to his car when Martin attacked him. His lawyer, Craig Sonner, said his client felt "one of them was going to die that night," when he pulled the trigger.

Martin's girlfriend, who was on the phone with him in his final moments, told ABC News in an exclusive interview that she has not been interviewed by police, despite Martin telling her he was being followed.

The 16-year-old girl, who is only being identified as DeeDee, recounted the final moments of her conversation with Martin before the line went dead.

"When he saw the man behind him again he said this man is going to do something to him. And then he said this man is still behind him and I said run," she said.

Phone records obtained by ABC News show that the girl called Martin at 7:12 p.m., five minutes before police arrived, and remained on the phone with Martin until moments before he was shot.

DeeDee said Martin turned around and asked Zimmerman why he was following him.

"The man said what are you doing around here?" DeeDee recalled Zimmerman saying.

She said she heard someone pushed into the grass before the call was dropped.

Zimmerman, who had called 911, was asked by the dispatcher if he was following the teen. When Zimmerman replied that he was, the dispatcher said, "We don't need you to do that."

Martin's death has sparked protests across the country and prompted President Obama to say that if he had a son, he would look like Martin.

Over the past few days, leaks have emerged suggesting Martin was dogged by discipline problems.

Martin had been slapped with a 10 day school suspension after a bag with suspected marijuana was found in his backpack, Benjamin Crump, the family's attorney, said.

Last year the teen was suspended for spraying graffiti on school grounds. The Miami Herald reported that the school guard who stopped him searched his backpack and found 12 items of women's jewelry and a flathead screw driver that the guard believed to be a "burglary implement." But Martin was never charged or specifically disciplined for the incident.

Crump alleged that the Sanford police had leaked damaging information about Martin in order to muddy the case, calling it a "conspiracy." Crump called the school disciplinary problems "irrelevant" to the case that "an unarmed 17 year kid was killed."

NOW HERE'S THE KICKER FOLKS, GEORGE ZIMMERMAN FATHER IS A RETIRED JUDGE IN VIRGINA, i bet Zimmerman called his father and his father made a call to Flordia.

George Zimmerman, Son of a Retired Judge, Has 3 Closed Arrests

Did George Zimmerman have help from his father, a retired judge, in clearing his name in three separate arrests?

That’s the question that’s being asked now that more information on Trayvon Martin’s 28-year-old killer is being revealed. Robert Zimmerman, a former Orange County magistrate judge, recently wrote a letter to The Orlando Sentinel defending his son, who’s been dragged through the mud for shooting the unarmed 17-year-old last month. In the letter, the senior Zimmerman asks people not to jump to conclusions and insists that his son didn’t follow the young boy home as he walked through their gated community.

“He would be the last to discriminate for any reason whatsoever. The media portrayal of George as a racist could not be further from the truth. At no time did George follow or confront Mr. Martin. When the true details of the event became public, and I hope that will be soon, everyone should be outraged by the treatment of George Zimmerman in the media,” wrote Robert Zimmerman.

Now more info is being dug up on his “victimized” son through public records and revealing his checkered past.

According to a records search on George, he was previously arrested for domestic violence, resisting an officer without violence and most shockingly, resisting an officer with violence — a felony charge that surely could have landed him in prison.

All three of those arrests, however, were mysteriously closed with no semblance of charges for the Florida resident. So how was someone with a violent past including that of battery against an officer able to carry a 9 mm handgun? Maybe that’s a question Robert Zimmerman should answer …

Update: Lead investigator wanted to arrest Zimmerman the night of the incident.

Note: It has been brought to our attention that George Zimmerman has been arrested one time, not three, and that the charges against him were dropped after he completed a pre-trial diversion program. The additional two charges stem from the same incident on the same date.

NOW HERE'S THE KICKER FOLKS, GEORGE ZIMMERMAN FATHER IS A RETIRED JUDGE IN VIRGINA, i bet Zimmerman called his father and his father made a call to Flordia.

State Attorney Norman Wolfinger was at the police station and what in the hell she was doing there.

Source: Sanford police chief, state attorney made Zimmerman 'no charge' call in person

A source with knowledge of the investigation into the shooting of Trayvon Martin tells theGrio that it was then Sanford police chief Bill Lee, along with Capt. Robert O'Connor, the investigations supervisor, who made the decision to release George Zimmerman on the night of February 26th, after consulting with State Attorney Norman Wolfinger -- in person.

Wolfinger's presence at the scene or at the police department in the night of a shooting would be unusual, according to the source. On a typical case, police contact the state attorney's office and speak with an on duty assistant state attorney; they either discuss the matter by phone or the on duty assistant state attorney comes to the crime scene - but rarely the state attorney him or herself.

A spokesman for the Sanford police department confirmed that Lee and O'Connor went to the shooting scene that night. Sgt. Dave Morgenstern said that is typical for a homicide case, particularly in for someone like O'Connor, who was hired by Lee last year to oversee all criminal investigations for the department.

TheGrio reached out to all of the parties involved for comment. A recording at the telephone number for State Attorney Wolfinger's media representative states that the Trayvon Martin case has been reassigned to the Jacksonville state attorney's office and that Wolfinger's office would have no comment. And a spokesperson for the state attorney's office replied to theGrio by email saying, "by law, we are unable to discuss the facts involving this investigation."

TheGrio could not reach former chief Lee for comment.

ABC News reported Tuesday that, after questioning Zimmerman at the Sanford police station, homicide investigator Chris Serino filed an affidavit February 26th stating that he did not believe Zimmerman's account of the shooting. He recommended charging the 28-year-old with manslaughter, but was advised by Wolfinger's office that there wasn't enough evidence to secure a conviction. Zimmerman was subsequently released.

What was not stated was that, on the night of the killing, Wolfinger may have traveled to either the scene of the shooting or the police station to discuss the case with Lee and O'Connor, who was briefly named interim "co-chief" with the current acting chief, Darren Scott, when Lee announced he would step down temporarily last week.

In this case, the source says investigators spoke to the on-duty assistant state attorney -- an unidentified woman -- who did not come to the scene, but that Wolfinger did.

And according to the source, after a conversation between Lee, O'Connor and Wolfinger, the decision was made to "cut Zimmerman loose."

the thing i dont get is ....even if that was him what does that have to do with the him being murdered for being black...i mean does having gold fronts and throwing up peace signs equate justification for getting your chest blew out ... the people that tried to rally around this foolishness just need to go ahead and let their bigoted world views be known and stop trying to hide behind a bunch of ?

It's not surprising that Zimmerman has committed other violent acts. People who aren't violent don't self appoint themselves captain of a neighborhood watch armed without intending to eventually harm others.

Still not dead or in jail. It is obvious that the police overstepped there boundaries once again. This has to stop. They are holding court in the streets. If we all take that approach things can and will get way out of hand.
