Apple has no other way to beat Samsung so they have to use the law to wear them down. While i personally think it's some snake ? to do from the alleged 'most successful company in the world' especially considering they would have gone belly up had Bill Gates not saved the company, they seem to be doing a good job

Has no way to beat Samsung? All Apple does is beat Samsung....in every single way. iPhone's sales will crush whatever Galaxy S14 or whatever is out. iPad dominates the tablet market, iPod owns the MP3 market, the Mac line outsells whatever Samsung computers are out...so again in what way does Samsung beat Apple??

At the end of Monday in week two of the Apple versus Samsung case, a damning internal Samsung email was admitted into evidence — an email containing charged language from JK Shin, Samsung’s head of mobile communications. In the email, Shin described the difference in user experience between Samsung and Apple smartphones as “a difference between Heaven and Earth.”

Here’s Shin again, on what Samsung could do to catch up from behind:
“I hear things like this: Let’s make something like the iPhone.”
    And again:
“When everybody (both consumers and the industry) talk about UX, they weigh it against the iPhone. The iPhone has become the standard. That’s how things are already.”
    And yet again:
“Do you know how difficult the Omnia is to use? When you compare the 2007 version of the iPhone with our current Omnia, can you honestly say the Omnia is better? If you compare the UX with the iPhone, it’s a difference between Heaven and Earth.”

It’s not pretty. Samsung declined my request for comment.

Samsung's are nothing but bootleg iPhones...you have no ? clue what "snake ? " is.

Samsung been providing apple with all their hardware for years dunny. Samsung just needs better software teams to edge out Apple and then they will fall behind. That's why they got hit with that lame copyright fee, their OS is lacking. As far as hardware though Samsung is on the come up near the top and if Apple does not succeed in trying to squash them, which as we can see now they are desperate as ? to do it because they keep trying to do it, then Apple will be playing catch up to Samsung.

I hope it happens cause Korea deserves this. They've made some crazy progress and it has been paying off. Word to coming up from nothing and not relying on a Bill Gates hand out to stay afloat.

Yeah and? Samsung used to make more manufacturing Apple parts than they were with their own damn phones. Samsung was just the manufacturer they didnt design ? . Thats why they had to get cross patents and licenses from Apple for their hardware as well. As far as hardware...the Retina Display is JUST NOW being beaten in ppi, the A4 and A5s were boding all the dual core intel chips when the iPhone4 came out. All everybody every heard was "Oh yeah just wait till the Tegra3s come out"....whose playing catch up then??

Its says a lot about you fandroids if your whole ? argument is

    1) Our brand new phone is better than the one you released a year ago

    2) Our phone is better because its bigger and faster....no ? its a year later...it better be.

    1. Take Apple's ? out of your mouth - i have an iphone and never owned an android.
    2. Spec wise Samsung is more capable as far as hardware goes.
    3. If Samsung isn't such a threat why are they fighting so valiantly to get rid of them?

Samsung is gunning for top spot

i think its more about general principal.

The principal of eliminating the source of all your technical hardware?
    lol

They didn't have to file - they filed to hit Samsung where it hurts.

On a side note, Samsung might hit them back. Not a fan of this legal competition at all as it takes away from real competition: manufacturers producing the best goods possible so as to procure more sales than competitors.

I wonder if Apple will still get to keep their LTE tho..

iPhone 5 launch disruption threatened by Samsung
    Under: Apple iPhone, Samsung
    Date: September 10th, 2012
The closer we get to the Apple iPhone 5 unveiling at an event on Wednesday the more news and speculation we hear and we are attempting to keep you informed with all the latest on the much-awaited release. However we previously told how Samsung has pledged to sue Apple if the iPhone 5 turns up with 4G LTE connectivity and could attempt to ban the iPhone 5 from sale if this happens. Now we hear that just in case we were all thinking this might be an empty threat on Samsung’s part, the company has now repeated that an LTE iPhone 5 could lead to launch disruption.
    iphone-5-launch-disruption.jpg
Many of you will have followed the recent patent litigation case in the U.S. between Samsung and Apple where Apple eventually won and is now attempting to ban several Samsung products from sale. We told how Samsung had vowed to counterstrike with action and a possible injunction against the iPhone 5 if it is LTE-equipped as Samsung holds several 4G LTE patents. However the evidence at the time seemed to suggest that there was only a very slim chance of the company managing to ban the iPhone 5 and we recently posted another article telling how the iPhone 5 is more likely than ever to arrive with 4G LTE and not just for the U.S. either but for some other regions worldwide.

It certainly seems as though Samsung’s initial vow to retaliate with action against an LTE iPhone 5 hasn’t stopped Apple from forging ahead with its plans but we wonder if Samsung’s further strong words today may have any impact after all. A report on iDownload Blog tells how some Samsung executives, who have not been named, informed a publication with a Samsung-friendly leaning that key markets in Europe and even the US will be the subject of legal action if a new iPhone with LTE comes to fruition. The possibility of this threatened action could lead to real problems for Apple, who will want to avoid any disruption to the flagship device launch.

Apparently a senior Samsung executive told The Korea Times today that the instant any LTE iPhone 5 hits retail shelves the company will launch action against it. The executive, said to be “directly involved with the matter,” specifically spoke of countries in Europe and also the US as “primary targets.” Many people will admire the way that Samsung is determined to strike back at Apple as it seems that there is currently a backlash against Apple for what many people perceive to be bully-boy tactics. Although it seems that further action might appear to be futile it is perhaps significant that in another suit Apple is having real difficulties trying to invalidate a couple of LTE-based patents belonging to HTC and this could mean more chance of success for Samsung if it sues Apple again and more chance of achieving a ban on iPhone sales.
    iPhone-5-launch-disruption.jpg
As iDownload Blog points out, it would only take one successful patent infringement strike against Apple, with all its smartphone eggs in one basket, to have a shattering effect on the company and a successful sales ban against the company would have long-lasting after-effects. Another Samsung executive has also pointed out the difference between standard essential patents and LTE patents with the latter being “new and highly-valued.” However it’s also noted that a Qualcomm chip is believed to enable LTE networking for the next iPhone and that Qualcomm already has licensed 4G technology, a point that Samsung so far seems to be conveniently ignoring.

One thing that does seem sure is that Samsung is going all out to get back at Apple although the chance of successful litigation in this case is questionable. However maybe Samsung feels it would be worth the price of a new suit against Apple if it were to cause interruption to the arrival of the iPhone 5? We’d be really interested to hear readers’ thoughts on this.

Do you think that Samsung has any chance at all in a future LTE patent battle with Apple and how far do you think Samsung should go in this endeavor? Maybe you can’t wait to get your hands on the new iPhone and feel that Samsung should back off with any legal threats? Let us know with your comments.

SAN FRANCISCO (The Borowitz Report)—Apple rocked the gadget world today with the news that the iPhone 5 includes a new feature that gives shape and purpose to previously empty and meaningless lives.

As Apple explained at its launch of the device, the new feature is an improved version of its personal assistant, Siri, that has been endowed with a quality missing from the previous model: empathy.

In a demonstration before a hushed crowd of Apple enthusiasts, an app developer named Josh asked the new Siri, “Why didn’t my parents love me?”

Siri’s response, “Your parents were too self-absorbed and narcissistic to recognize your essential beauty and value as a human being,” brought many in the Yerba Buena Center audience close to tears.

Apple C.E.O. Tim Cook closed out the launch with perhaps his boldest claim to date about the company’s new phone: “We believe that the iPhone 5 will make your current relationship obsolete.”

Wall Street rallied on the news, with tech analysts expecting millions of Apple customers to purchase an iPhone 5 to replace their existing boyfriend, girlfriend, or spouse.

But in the words of Apple devotee Tracy Klugian, who was present at today’s launch, such expectations are overdone: “Most Apple snobs I know started putting their Apple products before their relationships a long time ago.”

Battery life. "What [our team] has done is not only match but exceed the battery life of the iPhone 4S."

8 hours of 3G or LTE talk time or browsing. 10 hours on WiFi browsing.

Now, camera. "If you know anything about camera design the biggest challenge is vertical height." Going thinner compromises optics.

    It's an 8-megapixel, 3,264 x 2,448 backside-illuminated sensor, five-element lens and f/2.4 aperture. Same as the iPhone 4S but thinner.

I don't get my upgrade until Feb so I will probably just wait.
