First off, we don't have the cap space to out right sign 'D. Jordan' unless Eric Gordon is moved, and as far as Asik goes, how the hell you trade someone that's becoming a unrestricted free agent in the offseason? -

I thought he had 1 more year left.
My main concern is Gordon though. We gotta get rid of him.
-
The should have never matched that offer sheet from the Suns for Gordon. Shoulda let him walk.

And they traded him for a first round pick. That's a lose-lose for the Pelicans because you have no leverage and he can walk at the end of the season. -

my only guess is that they convince him to take less so that they can keep him while trying to sign another notable FA
or
you get $10M+ off the books...to me, it looks like a win to me -

That first round pick wasn't netting us anybody that could come in and immediately contribute and his below average performance on the offensive and defensive end is leverage enough not to overpay him. We in the playoffs bruh, his performance is on display for a national audience to see. The Lakers, Knicks, or any other team with cap space would be STUPID to overpay him in free agency like Houston did several years ago just so Chicago couldn't match the contract.

Asik leaving isnt a bad thing imo
i believe this is the second consecutive year the Pelicans lead the league in blocked shots, and last year they had Jason Smith and Ajinca along with AD so.... -

http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/rebounds-per-game/sort/avgReboundsDifference/year/2014/seasontype/2
We were a below average rebounding team last year though.
http://espn.go.com/nba/statistics/team/_/stat/rebounds-per-game/sort/avgReboundsDifference/seasontype/2
We actually improved in that area with the help of Asik and ranked in the top 10 at #7 in team rebounding differential.
This can't be dismissed or totally ignored when gauging Asik impact to the team. -
