Picking this up after work. Is it similar to Brown sugar or voodoo in terms of mood and sound?
-
This album is greatness, loving music right now as a whole, so much good stuff dropping. Can't even complain.

Lauryn Hill and Andre 3000 dropping next

Crawling through a systematic maze
And it pains to demise
Pain in our eyes
Strain of drownin', wading into your lies
Degradation so loud that you can't hear the sound of our cries
All the dreamers have gone to the side of the road which we will lay on
Inundated by media, virtual mind ? in streams
[CHORUS]
All we wanted was a chance to talk
'Stead we only got outlined in chalk
Feet have bled a million miles we've walked
Revealing at the end of the day, the charade
Perpetrators beware say a prayer if you dare for the believers
With a faith at the size of a seed enough to be redeemed
Relegated to savages bound by the way of the deceivers
So anchors be sure that you're sure we ain't no amateurs
[CHORUS]
All we wanted was a chance to talk
'Stead we only got outlined in chalk
Feet have bled a million miles we've walked
Revealing at the end of the day, the charade
[BRIDGE]
With the veil off our eyes we'll truly see
And we'll march on
And it really won't take too long
And it really won't take us very long
Easily my favorite song on the album.

In (un)related news, former member of A Tribe Called Quest and Lucy Pearl, Ali Shaheed Muhammed has released a song titled CPR
Produced by New York native, Ali Shaheed Muhammad, 'CPR' features Tennessee visual artist/rapper, JaPoet, Georgia co-producer/rapper, David Luke, and recent collaborator, Palestinian/Canadian singer/songwriter, Merna (fka Ayah).
Via his instagram, Ali writes, "The Eric Garner non-indictment decision left me in shock. Shock turned into tears. Tears turned into this song. Revive the nation. Time for a collective consciousness!"
This is one for the people. #BlackLivesMatter

s/n i saw Ms. Hill in concert this summer...yea, crazy.
But the performance was actually underwhelming. She didnt perform any of her original material as is, all of it had like a reggae, uptempo tinge.
So im inclined to believe she's too emotinally invested to record what we want, (slow jams, sad ish), maybe bc it hurts...or she dont own the mateiral or somethin. Idk
I say all that to say this...i dont think she's ever doing music again lol -
giving this the all important 4th listen...after a day away from it. imo it takes that 3rd or 4th listen and a day away to place the album
-
Yall don't want a ms hill album. She came to Chicago and just sounded so horrible

In what way? Im curious bc in DC her voice wasnt too bad but this bytch remixed all her old songs (lol smh) nggas was straight perplexed. -
Word I saw Lauryn in the bay and she sounded awful.
But yoooo I can't stop playing this album. He incorporated all the different elements of music so effortless. This ? is the definition of imperfectly perfect. This jawn was worth the wait for real. In a time where everything is so recyclable and we always on to the next, this is an album you really gotta digest and sit with for a long time. This the best Christmas present we could ask for. Hopefully we don't have to wait another 15 years for his next one but I'm not holding my breath. -
After 4th listen i can finally classify songs
Instant classics: really love, charade, Another life
Elite: Betray my heart, prayer, aint that easy
Very good: the rest
Dont like: the door, and even thats nitpicking
Verdict: still need more time to call it classic, idk why maybe just being conservative. After i really put it down for a week or so then pick it back up, im pretty sure i'll call it classic. No music has put me in this type mood in a minute. -

artist live =/= artist in the studio -

JCole live in concert on Born Sinner tour was way better live than the album.
He performed with live band which definitely helped tho -

While I agree . She sounded like she didn't even want to be there. It was when her and Nas teamed up -
Lauryn can't sing any more period. It would take a lot of Mariah Carey autotune treatment to correct it. She ain't even the same caliber artist as D'Angelo to begin with a and I'm from Newark.

This is going to be a Legendary record to me. I mean I've played it straight through several times. It's just beautiful to my ears. It's true "SOUL" music. It felt so good to go to the store and cop it and rip off the plastic just like I did when I brought his debut album when I was 15 in my sophomore year of high school. D'angleo is a Living Legend. He literally gave us 1 song for damn near every year he's been gone and all them joints is fire.

One word: Psychedelic
I think I might have heard one or two of the songs before like a poster here. ..
I wouldn't be mad at anyone labelling it a classic already. The music on there is soul. Not manufactured. Pure.
Dude also reminds me of another of my favourite musicians; George Benson who is a great guitar player and sings too.. . -
Expected to sale 95-100,000 copies in its first week.
