Tough to call, so many great artist out there in the world past to present, but LL, Pac, Eminem, the Roots, maybe Nas, maybe Jay-Z, top 20 though is a rough fitting...

I think that because most of these guys play instruments as well as write their own stuff...they have an edge... -

We all know why rap won't be looked at or held in positive light like other genres of music. It has been marginalized as negative, thug, and a nihilistic art form since its inception from various groups(I wont mention any names) but that shouldn’t disqualify exceptional artists from being mentioned with the greats if they meet that criteria.
I think Jay and Nas deserve a spot in the top 20. WHat have other great artist done that these two haven't.

great list but then some would ask why no Elton or Beethoven or Bach or LL or Em or Celine or the Roots, or Curtis Mayfield or Aretha or Yolanda Adams... it can be tough to make an open and shut case just based on them examples I threw right there to consider. Again nothing wrong with ya list, it's great but you see some names and you say well damn just maybe. -
