Some of y'all are conditioned beyond repair.
British North America was one of the most effective New World colony when it came to conditioning African captives. The one drop rule prolly saved usthem from going full ? -
Yes
? don't you ever quote me again you are to stupid to talk too -
NoUnless you want to go into what tribes blacks came from and what regions and why certain tribes decided to sell off other tribes from Africa then it has little to do with the black American experience.
Africa is a very SMALL part of African-American history. It is simply the place our ancestors came from. Once they left Africa a whole new identity was formed. Like it or not black Americans have little to do with Africa.
Just ask Africans. They cant stand your black ass for the most part. -
YesThey are succeeding in stripping us of our African heritage. SMH.

Agreed. But Africa has a great deal to do with Black Americans. -
YesAfrican americans can be some of the biggest fools on the planet and this thread is proof of it.

How so, other than it being where we were kidnapped from? That makes it relevant but lets not pretend it goes any deeper than "thats where we were kidnapped from...thats where Arab traders sold us after wars, etc." -

The goal Carter Woodson had when he started black history week was to highlight black accomplishments here in America, but I don't see the issue with discussing African history too if people want to.
SN: Woodson picked the first week of Feb to celebrate ? history week because of Frederick Douglass's bday. -

I think this may have help answer my question.

NoSeems like a lot of people are voting on Culture/Heritage, but that connection is obvious. The question is, other than maybe Nelson Mandela, are there any African leaders (of Non-American origin) you hold next to Malcolm X, or Martin Luther King and celebrate their lives as you would X's, or Kings?

prolly because you say dumb ? like that.
only in America do African descended people try to ignore their roots -

Noooooooo bruh, we were sold. The Africans were complicit in the slave trade, empires were built on it (Asante/Ashanti).
I agree with your overall point. We are a different breed than Haitians or Nigerians and they are inherently different from us. In most cases we share skin color but no other cultural markings.
I don't see how it's bad to celebrate OUR history. Especially when you can be quite sure that very few of any Black Americans are in history books of other black majority nations.BlackJerryMaguire wrote: »Unless you want to go into what tribes blacks came from and what regions and why certain tribes decided to sell off other tribes from Africa then it has little to do with the black American experience.

That's a straw man. It's not about ignoring your roots it's about taking pride in what you have done. -

Nkrumah definitely. Biko, Fanon, Cesaire, maybe Kenyatta.
These folks highlight the parallels we all share have as black and oppressed peoples.
Very important people to know. -

No all black people are not exactly the same but saying african americans are inherently different is too extreme and is a foolish statement. -

Because there is no inherent difference between african americans and most other black people especially those in the dispora. -
African history is relevant to all whom are descendants of it. Like anybody whose family is descended from any continent. The history is all equally important to who ever is appropriate.
But what America fails to acknowledge is that "African-American" history, a history that took place in the USA, IS American history. But ? still ain't considered equal, so we have to celebrate separately. Black history month is like a slick remnant of some Jim Crow ? .
I see what they did there.

BIKO was the man. A man whos words were so powerful his oppressors banned him from speaking to more than one person at a time.
I know I can easily used google, but to get more knowledge flowing through this thread put me up on game. Who os Nkrumah? That name isn't ringing a bell at all.
Thanks.
