‘Furious 7′, Fueled By Social Media, Looks To Clock $115M Domestic B.O. Opening

    furious-7-two-e1427058150441.jpg?w=446&h=299&crop=1

Per tracking last Friday, Furious 7’s total awareness was high among total audiences with 91%. Breaking total awareness down, men under 25 charted 94% as the seventhquel’s biggest fans, followed by older men (25+) at 93%, and women under and over 25 with 89%. Unaided awareness, which polls people on the street to name a movie, any movie they’ll see in the upcoming weekend is high at 14% for total audiences and 16% men under 25. Asserts one major studio distribution chief, “Those are just amazing numbers.”

To date, the Fast & Furious franchise has racked up $2.4B for Universal worldwide with the last chapter Fast & Furious 6, which opened over the 2013 Memorial Day frame, finaling at $238.7M stateside and$788.7M around the globe.

Worst case scenario in regards to Furious 7‘s opening per one insider is that it opens to Captain America 2‘s numbers. Further lubing Furious 7 at the B.O.: It’s Easter weekend, and audiences have proven not to shy away from big pics in the past, read 2010’s Clash of the Titans which bowed to$61.2M.

Not only has tracking prompted rival distribs to project a $115M weekend for Furious 7, but the film’s social media outreach has been through the roof. RelishMix cites the Fast & Furious brand as the most social in terms of reach and engagement combined. Furious 7‘s social media universe stands at 865M outstripping Fifty Shades of Grey, The Hunger Games, The Avengers and The Hobbit. RelishMix counts 299M Fast & Furious Facebook fans, 29M Twitter followers with 415M YouTube video views and 122M views on the official Facebook. Fast 6 in May 2013 opened with 101M Facebook fans, 17M Twitter followers, 112M YouTube video views and zero video views on FB. Since Fast 6, Fast & Furious has grown a massive 3x on FB, 2x on Twitter and 4x on YouTube.

While some of the most prolific YA stars of today, read Shailene Woodley, Jennifer Lawrence and Kristen Stewart, opt out of having a personal social media presence, Furious 7 has some extra nitrous oxide in its marketing thanks to the fact that most of the cast has a SMU footprint and is continually tubthumping the film on their personal handles (even though Woodley and most of the Insurgent casts don’t tweet or Facebook, Lionsgate made double sure that the actors were available with Twitter chats, Google Hangouts, etc. through the film’s own social media channels).

Of the top 10 Facebook actors this year per RelishMix, Furious 7 stars three of ‘em: Vin Diesel with 86.7M likes in first place, Jason Statham (47.1M) in eighth and Dwayne Johnson (46.7M) in ninth.

Add in Vin Diesel’s 2.7M Instagram followers to his FB and his total SMU reach is 89.4M. Since the last film per RelishMix he’s added 50.8M FB fans. Last week, the actor was generating heat on the web with video taken at a Furious 7 screening where he chokes up when talking about late Furious 7 actor Paul Walker who died November 30, 2013 from an auto accident in Valencia, CA. Currently the video counts 1.3M views. See below.

Statham’s SMU presence primarily rests on FB, however, Johnson counts the second biggest social media draw in the cast with a total of 63.1M across FB (46.7M), Instagram (8.1M) and Twitter (8.3M).

Walker’s official FB, Twitter and Instagram pages are still alive and operated, altogether tallying 43.15M with 39.2M coming from FB alone.

Rapper-actor Ludacris is also solid with 32.55M across the three social media platforms. He’s been busying promoting his album Ludaversal to his 10.2M Twitter fans which hits store shelves on March 31, days before Furious 7. Today he showed off a cast photo from a Today show interview at the Toretto house to his 3.3M Instagram fans.

Michelle Rodriguez‘s social chatter universe totals 12.7M, comprised of 11M FB, just under 1M Instagram fans and 772K Twitter followers. She has been posting Furious 7 vids as well as new tracks from the film’s soundtrack. Jordana Brewster has 5.75M followers in her SMU with 4.89M on FB, 554K Twitter followers and 309K Instagram fans. She posted this #caryoga photo yesterday in conjunction with the film:

During Furious 7‘s opening weekend of April 3-5, the film remains unopposed by any new wide releases. Next weekend, March 27-29, Warner Bros. Will Ferrell-Kevin Hart R-rated comedy Get Hard bows in an estimated 3,150 venues. It is currently attracting a 78% total awareness among all crowds with a strong 84% in men over 25. At 3,600 engagements, DreamWorks Animation’s Home from Fox is also opening. It has a 64% total awareness with its strongest demo being females over/under 25 at 70%.

Vin Diesel Predicts ‘Furious 7′ Will Win the Oscar for Best Picture

    168245681.jpg?crop=0px%2C0px%2C3000px%2C1670px&resize=670%2C377

Universal’s “Furious 7” is expected to set box office records when it opens on April 3, with fans eager to flock to multiplexes to bid farewell to Paul Walker. But the film’s star and producer, Vin Diesel, predicts that “Furious 7’s” success won’t be limited to the number of tickets it sells. He says the film will also sweep a certain 2016 awards ceremony.

“Universal is going to have the biggest movie in history with this movie,” Diesel said in a lengthy interview with Variety for this week’s cover story. “It will probably win best picture at the Oscars, unless the Oscars don’t want to be relevant ever.”

Diesel took a breath, before offering his prediction for a second time. “This will win best picture,” Diesel said. “There is nothing that will ever come close to the power of this thing.”

Diesel said he was very pleased with the final movie, which pays tribute to Walker, who died as a passenger in a sports car accident in November 2013 in the middle of production. The studio then had to scramble to rewrite the film’s ending, and used special effects to finish Walker’s performance with the help of stand ins. “We were successful in one-upping the action sequences, and adding an interesting dynamic to the world,” Diesel said. “But what the world won’t anticipate is how emotionally powerful the movie is. The head of the studio, Ron Meyer, often said when ‘Fast 5′ or ‘Fast 6′ came out, ‘If there was no number attached to these movies, they would be contenders for best picture.’ And when people see ‘Furious 7,’ they are going to agree.”

“Furious 7,” the latest chapter in the most successful franchise in the history of Universal Pictures (at $2.4 billion), debuted at SXSW last week, where it earned glowing reviews. The film currently stands at a 85 fresh on Rotten Tomatoes. But “Furious 7” would be an unusual Oscars winner, as the Academy has yet to bestow a single best picture nomination on franchise events like “The Hunger Games,” “Harry Potter,” “The Dark Knight” or the previous six “Fast and Furious” films. In recent years, more often than not, the best picture prize has gone to smaller indies like “Birdman,” “12 Years a Slave,” “The Artist” and “The Hurt Locker.”

Then again, “Furious 7″ opens at a time where the Academy is under scrutiny after this year’s disastrous telecast, which saw viewership decline by 16 percent with host Neil Patrick Harris. Board members are expected to meet in the coming days to talk about whether to narrow the best picture field back to only five nominees, instead of the current structure (which allows for up to 10). Maybe Diesel is on to something, after all. Or maybe not: when told about the prediction, a Universal executive chuckled and then asked to go off the record.

Because the most recent ones Han has been in them. And the last movie tied that up from Tokyo Drift. So this will be an official sequel to Tokyo Drift.
This is the order that they go in.

    The Fast and the Furious
    2 Fast 2 Furious
    Fast & Furious
    Fast Five
    Fast & Furious 6
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift
    Furious 7
