Its not that its "hard" to originate a style, It's just different. But I think its way easier to duplicate a style. Just listen to whoever and make something that sounds like them. There was a dude who sounded like Jay z, Rakim created a whole type of style, there was a thread about the Pastor Troy clones...etc. Its easier to replicate what someone else has done regardless. I could rap like pretty much anyone in 5 minutes after listening to em If i wanted too. -

It's not hard to pick a style and work on making up a decent rap within that style. People spoof artists all the time
Future mumbles, talks about lean, and uses autotune like effects. Gee i wonder how long it took an Atlanta rapper like future to be so innovative and create such a unique style.
There is a reason why fast food chains can have the same formula across thousands of stores but the top notch unique food place of a given city can't be copied to be a nationwide chain. Nobody could be outkast 2.0 back during their prime nor could anyone be Nas in the mid 90s. ? being future like errday tho. -

Desiigner is a product of today's hip hop. Young Thug started it when he blew after admittedly stealing Wayne's style.
Dude in the FTESWL podcast made a good point comparing hip hop to rock and how they became a commodity. Labels want to put out a product with the least amount of money and effort for the biggest profit. When that occurs the copycats come out in droves because the label knows it's a formula that wins and the blueprint is already there. Movie studios do the same thing. A movie hit then you see 10 more just like it. Art should never be ran like a manufacturing company. -
