or i could be wrong but this is how i did it
48/2 (9+3) =
48/2 (12) =
48/24 =
2
or i did it this way also
But yeah, you follow BEDMAS/PEMdAS
48/2(9+3)
BRACKETS/PARENTHESIS FIRST,
48/2(12)
After this, those brackets are simply a multiplication symbol, so you can rewrite as:
48/2x12
At this point you follow BEDMAS and go left to right
48/2 = 24
Then you have 24(12) or 24x12
= 288 -
you need a math lesson
I guess...im pretty good with math
Its called a math troll for a reason... -
i still think it's 288
You get 2 if you multiply before you divide but division and multiplication are on the same bracket in PEMDAS.
Since the division sign is before the multiplication sign you divide first. The rule is to go left to right. -
And yall gotta remember, all calculators don't follow order of operations (PEMDAS).
-
The unsolvable problem continues.....
-
48/2(9+3)=
48/2(12)=
24(12)=
288 -
Its really interesting that even the calculators are confused too lol

288, ? math. as somebody else said, ? problems like this dont make money and are a waste of time. Math like this should be a hobby or some ? and not part of required education.
-
...both answers r right...math lost...

Wow..funny how a little math challenge can strike up discussion

wtf,how do you post youtube vids ??????

My actuary friend is telling me the real difference here is what will determine the answer.
48÷2(9+3) = 2
48/2(9+3) = 288
For reasons I cant explain the division symbol makes the difference here. Something about the non-traditional symbol having more implications with the denominator not being inclusive of the problem. He also said this is one of the worst written problems he has ever seen lol. Definite troll problem. -

thanks, but me trying to post it 3 times takes the humor out of it -
2(9+3) has to be multiplied first (you could just add what's in the parenthesis, but ya gotta go through the steps)
2 x 9= 18 and 2 x 3= 6
18+6= 24
the (original) question is what is 48 divided by 2x9 + 2x3 (which "we" have figured out was 24)
So 48 divided by 24 is what?
*Gold star for me* -
....calculators anyone wtf

Please Excuse My Dear Aunt Sally.... she's a ? .

The bottom i would read it as 48 is the numerator with 2(9+3) being the denominator. Guess he reads it as 48/2 being a fraction, multiplying (9+3)
In a nutshell he says 48÷2(9+3) would read as 48 OVER 2(9+3) where 48/2(9+3) reads 48/2 * (9+3)

48/2(9+3)=
You first add whats in the parenthesis, which is 9+3. Once you get 12 you still have to get rid of the parenthesis. Since 2 is directly connected to the parenthesis, then you multiply 2 times 12 and get 24. Then division is left so you divide 48 by 24 and end up with 2.
uh no. 48/2 is like a seperate entity. its not just a 48 and a 2. its one whole thing. and you dont just multiply the denominator of something without doing anything with the numerator. if you had like 1/2 (4) the answer isnt going to be 1/8. thats basically what youre doing. WRONG.
